Retirement, if I ever make it that far, will be extremely awesome. Even in an old fart sanctuary, as long we're all hooked up to the net AND morphine. Can't wait! B)

I'm 64. Seeing how man under 25 children are playing this game explains a lot about the guar dung in game chat and on the forums.

o:) Nonsense can come from any age group. Calling those under 25 children and saying that population explains zone and forum chat mishaps is unkind to those in that age range, and I admit I've seen plenty of grief from higher age ranges, including my nearly-60 father who will hammer out all sorts of swearing when people are uh... underperforming in PvP. >:)

Yea I've heard far more uncivilized things from geezers than the young. Not that the young aren't really good at saying those types of things, it's just the elderly seem to feel like they don't have to pretend to be decent anymore.

I have a lot of piercings and tattoos, and the group of people that stares daggers at me the most are the elderly. They seem to be offended by my very existence. I realize this seems unrelated but I think it is indicative of the attitude of the elderly in general.

Not to mention some of the very selfish opinions on life many elderly have, and the inherent racism that seems so common.

Not disagreeing that what you say is true in some cases, but I think you would be surprised, a lot of the older crowd here are I bet superannuated hippies, who would be very comfortable with you as you are. Unfortunately, after the 70s a lot of society took a hard swing to right and extreme conservatism.

I'm used to the EQ playerbase, which was a lot of military and neo-conservatives. Extremely hostile to any manner of disagreement while constantly peppering the chat with neo-conservative comments. I admit I am easily baited. It went as far as death threats, so now I just assume everyone is hyper conservative.

I don't have any particular hatred for old people, and I realize it might have sounded like that. The elderly are a very vulnerable segment of the population. I don't think too many of the vulnerable ones will be the ones savvy enough to use the internet effectively and compete in an mmo though, however, I could be wrong.

No, I did not think you hated us old codgers (Hee) and I am sorry you ran into the neocons and idiots, but I think you would be surprised how many of us jumped on the early computers when we were only middle-aged and now game away cheerfully. Also, another point, I am so liberal I squish that's what I meant about superannuated hippies.

I'd never thought that I'd be one of the 2%'ers.

My first computer was an Altair 8800 that I built, followed a year later by an apple I kit which I which I wish I didn't throw away. I heard it can now fetch over $500,000 :( Since then, I had bought or built every known home PC. I now just build my own custom systems.

My first game was pong on the TV; and then a texted based WW3 bombing game on a TRS-80 with 16k.

My favorite games PC games were: the Doom and Quake series, Wolfenstein Series, Duke Nukem 3D (the original), Call of Duty series, Far Cry series, Crysis series, Half life series, Portal 1 and 2, Max Payne series, Sin series, Splinter Cell series, and got hooked on RPG games from Bethesda after playing Oblivion, then when on to play Fallout 3, new Vegas, and Skyrim.

I put in about 1000 hours in each of the pervious Bethesda games I mentioned with the exception of Skyrim where I have over 2000 hours invested in it. I actually crafted a bow and arrows in Skyrim that had enough damage to take out a dragon with one shot; it took me a solid week to make the enchanted cloths and potions to craft it.

I tried WOW, FFIV, and GW1 and GW2, and didn't like them much from a 1st person shooter's point of view.

I currently have about 900 hours invested in ESO. ESO did force me to learn to use the 3rd person view which I really like. I'm still on the fence with ESO; I'm having too issues each time I play; issues that should have been addressed after the beta play was finished. As a programmer, I know how complicated a game like ESO is, but the underlying data structure seems to be made from spaghetti.

So basically, I'm an 15 year old trapped in an old man's body, like an extreme version of the movie "Big".

    Rick

This poll sample is fairly small so far and of course only includes people who participate in forums which is a small subset of the player population.

Well ZOS, do the poll results come close to the age demographics you expect to find?

Good god, there are people voting that they are under 18. <facepalm>

You do realise that just because we can't see who voted for what, doesn't mean the Mods can't. The fact the system only lets us vote once means it's being tracked.

I just hope the geniuses who voted they are under 18 were just joking, or they might get a nasty shock.

PS. I am 40, I remember Thatcher and Reagan, and Bobby Ewing coming back to life in the shower.

Ok I must be old, where do you see the results so far? Is it private results as well?

You have to take the poll in order to see the results :)
Btw, sorry for giving a 7-year age range in the second answer. I have no sense of math and just wanted to go by fives, so in my mind it was like, "okay, just make it 18 to 25!" Lol.

First 18-25 is an 8 year range, not 7. Second, now it's cleared up that you can be under 18, it may be worth doing another poll with 20 and under as first option, then 21-25. I'm sure we would all vote again, after all, we appear to be a fairly mature bunch.

@AlexDougherty PEGI/USK is 16+ and as long as the account holder meets that age requirement, I don't think anything will happen. And if parents decide their 6 year old can play Gore Slaughterhouse of Sexual Doom III, than all we can do is to raise an eyebrow.

Personally, I don't think there's anything harmful in this game and attended play for minors won't cause any problems. For teens unattended even, as long as one stays watchful on how many hours are burned on it. You can definitely waste too much time on MMOs and waste yourself in the process.

Out of this reason I'd rate any MMO 18+/M, just to raise awareness so parents don't unknowingly park and lose their offspring in some virtual world.

    Good point.

I figured that the young whippersnappers either:

    a. are from a country where the age requirement is under 18 or

    b. had their account set up by their parents.

If the parents let their underage kids play, the responsibility should fall on them.

It would not surprise me if there are some who lied about their age in order to set up their own account to play.
