Crafting and overcharged

I recently started a new character and decided to give crafting a try but I'm a bit confused. It seems like anything I craft sets my stats to overcharged. I made a set of heavy armor and overcharged. I made two swords and overcharged. Any provisioning I try and overcharged. Am I doing something wrong or is this just because I'm at a low level? I'm beginning to think I will be better off using stuff I find and just selling the mats. Any help would be appreciated.

    Until you've learned enough traits to start making sets, ye you probably are better off using drops and quest rewards. Btw. Overcharging isn't necessarily as bad a thing as the colour it changes to implies. It just means you're only getting half the benefit of going over the cap.

    eg. Let's say you're exactly at cap and still "in the white" and you add an extra 10 to a stat. You'll only gain 5 points in the stat you added to.

    What you are likely seeing with your crafted gear on is you being a couple of points into the red. Try removing a piece and see if you are still in the red then work out exactly how much adding it again puts you over.

    Any decent gear sets your stats as overcharged, not just crafted gear, the problem is that unless you mix your equipment the game feels you are overspecialising.

    It's daft, but hey what can you do, I personally just ignore the overcharging of stats unless they hit the hard cap (where you can't improve anymore).

    Ok, I understand it a bit better now. I'll just focus on traits and deconstructing not worry about the other stuff till later. Thanks!

    Maybe but if they want us grouping then they need to do something like SWTOR's Daily missions, where you got sets of missions most of which required groups to do, including World Bosses that needed huge teams to kill.

    What most people do is they get their primary resource to softcap (overcharged), then focus their efforts on secondary ones. For example, if you use a lot of stamina you would softcap that first and then move on to something else. Armor is notoriously easy to cap, so there is rarely a need to wear 7 pieces. Most people do 5 (what you need to get the heavy passive bonus), and two light or medium to help with resources.
    I was very lax about these things before VR 1, but when I got there, I did the math, respecced and got as many things to softcap as possible.

    This said they're raising the caps at the next patch by a fairly hefty amount :)

    Now that actually sounds much better, for the players. It'd probably be a lot of work though, unless they dumped any variability. I sort of like the idea of say 90 or so "Daily" Missions cycling over 3 months relevant to each faction. Or alternatively 3 monthly extended quest missions, 12 weekly "quest" missions and 3 daily missions per week cycling over 3 months.

    Yeah, I know, it'll never happen :)

    In regards, to the OP though. I recall getting to one of the Mundus Stones (The Lover?) with my HA S&B Templar Alt and immediately overcharging my armour stat by taking it. I remember it clearly because I wasn't expecting to have gone over the softcap at L6. I changed my Armour around after that, because I didn't want to hit the cap at that time, without any effort.

    I use all crafted armor all the time, and most weapons are crafted. I make better stuff than I can find at my level. I only have to make a set of gear every 4 levels and I either deconstruct or sell loot in between those times. I have specific needs in mind with the traits, so that is the biggest reason for me to craft. I have not made a Set yet, mostly because I forget to when I am whipping up some armor.

    I also don't worry too much about overcharging. In fact, if I am not overcharging something from a crafted item, I feel like my crafting is weak.

    Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    I actually plan on pushing a stat or two to hard cap when I get the opportunity since Soft Cap is the "Norm" I am going to attempt to be different and see how many stats can get to hard cap then soft cap.

    I have a couple of questions relative to caps and crafting. First, where can I find what the various caps actually are? I have always found that bit of info on the Elder Scrolls wiki but it isn't there yet on the ESO page. I sometimes see an overcharged stat but it is usually because I ate or drank something.

    Second, about crafting in general. I have been using gear from drops and rewards because it is usually at my level and better than I'm making. I haven't got a lot of points into crafting anything because I am only level 9. I can't find aspect runes to make more than one or two glyphs which I sometimes use and sometimes send to an alt to deconstruct. I put skills into weapons and class so I can stay alive while I go out resource gathering. At what level should I be able to craft better than I find? I find level 8 or 9 gear but I only make level 1 or 2. I'm not one of those who go rushing through to level as fast as I can and am just taking my time in Auridon while I wait for word on the console but I am wondering how to refine my play so I can do better later.

    You will find enchanting absolutely terrible to level in its current state. That's not to say its not worth it just that its terrible LOL.

    As for crafting actual gear that actually goes quite well. The best way to level it is by deconstructing EVERYTHING you can.

    Not to mention sometimes its next to impossible to find the gear you NEED for your character crafting offers you perfectly each item in each slot at the right level with the right stats and traits. Something VERY hard to find in the field.

    The gear I craft is at whatever level that craft is at? The skills have nothing to do with level directly? I do try to research traits as I find them if they are in a craft I am interested in, which is to say that I deconstruct blacksmithing stuff but I usually sell the mats because I don't do heavy or iron. I swing a sword like a girl so I'm strictly a bow and staff wielder. Do I get any inspiration from deconstructing the junk if I get no mats out of it?

    @Shaun98ca2, good luck with that. The stat loss is exponential. But points for originality :]

    @Moonscythe, I use an add-on which adds your current soft cap next to the stats (soft caps level with you). Its called SoftCap Info, I believe.

    I don't bother using enchanting to create most Glyphs. The elemental Damage and Stat Boost ones are in the Enchantment shops. I make my armour all the time because I never recover more than half the required leveled armour that's useful enough before going up another level. I then enchant all of it with combo's of the three Glyphs available in the shops.

    As far as I know add-ons are no use to me. I use a Mac and Macs are always under supported, plus I will shift to a console as soon as I can because I really dislike gaming on a computer.

    Hers numbers are somewhat unusual. We have a full suite of crafters and a strong Enchanter.
