3 medium + 4 light?

Normally it seems to be better to go 2/5 with armor combos, but I've got a dragon knight archer that I want pretty evenly balanced between physical attacks and magical support, so I'm thinking of trying out the 3/4 setup. Anyone have experience with it?

Figure it will end up being 9% physical crit, 9% stamina regen, 12% magic regen, 12% reduced spell cost, at the cost of the extra spell crit from 5 light. I'm focusing on the earthen heart tree to make the character a support damage dealer, providing group buffs, shields, damage reduction on mobs, and crowd control

Reduced spell cost is arguably the most powerful mechanic in the game. I ran with 5 light, but ended up with 7 light and never looked back. Too much utility - mitigation, survivability, CC, and raw damage hang on Magicka.

You can still use physical weapons to attack, using Igneous Weapons (or the crit morph, if you really want the crit).

My experience with the DK on Veteran ranks suggests that going full caster with Destruction (or Restoration, if you want more utility\mana management) is the most flexible way. Great control, great damage, good sustainability and survivability (Dragon blood, Eruption debuff, Spiked are great for not dying, all while doing non-negligible damage).

Well I loathe the destruction staff and already have a character that uses the Resto staff. I also really don't like the dress look, so 7 Light isn't happening whether it's better or not

1h+shield PBAoE\shortrange caster works, bow works, as well. Nice to have Sta-based control to fall back on (multitarget root with Bombardment). Don't like the dress, get a costume :) But I'm sure 6light1med\heavy(chest) won't ruin your character.

As for Resto staff, you take it for passives, not actives. Cycle of Life boosts all damage. You can just have restostaff equipped and fill your bar with class and guild skills, no trouble.

I think if they lowered the current 5 piece armor passive down to a 4 piece bonus, it would help encourage more hybrid type builds.

I don't think it would, because, currently, 7\7 light is still optimal for the majority of builds.

On my Templar after the last respec, I tried both 5 LA/2 MA and 7/7 LA, with shield.

7/7 LA on the magicka build, works well in PvE. Barely need stamina tbh.
And works very well in PvP if you are range caster.

However if you are close combat caster using eg Aedric Spear, Assassination or similar abilities from the others, the bonuses of 2 MA on PvP are more important than 2 LA.

The reason is that you must escape by dodging, almost constantly. And running out of Stamina in PvP, is certain death at most times.

I play a Sorcerer, I was 7/7 light. Due to some low end gear, I went 5 light 2 heavy, couldnt sustain. Got better gear and went back to 7/7. As for the robe vs the pants look, since I play a female char, I prefer the robe look better. This is the setup for me. Every build is different. You need to

You lose main 5pieces bonus wich is sugnificant and regens can be modified with jewelry. There is no sence to lose bonus for 1 piece regen

Looking at the new set bonuses, it seems like 5 piece bonuses may not be the go to thing anymore. They're still powerful, but now that there are 4 piece bonuses you can go for two 4 piece sets (or a 5 piece and 4 piece set).

set bonuses doesn't depend on armor type, you may craft 5 item set from all 3 types of armor and it will works.
I was telling about armor passive skill bonuses that needs 5 pieces of one type armor such as Prodigy or Agility.

The 5 piece bonuses from armor skills are too good to pass up imo. I am using 5 medium/2 light, and even though I really want more spell cost reduction/regen, I need the weapon crit medium gives, since there is no "Magelight" for weapon crit. Maybe if I ever get that pvp jewelry set that gives 10% weapon crit I can go 5 light 2 medium.
