Maintenance for the week of November 18:

Allow Combat on Horses and add new weapons

KerberosSoldier
I propose after main issues are fixed for Zenimax to add combat on horses and to add new weapons like lances. It would be intense to have a group of Calvary sallying forth from a keep and flanking the enemy.

That was a very insightful comment. Why don't you expand a little.

The idea of horseback combat is good.
It adds use to the horses aside from quick travel.

    Lances? not so much.

But It would also allow for another world skill tree for Horse Riding, which could contain some pretty cool skills for use on horseback, even passives such as morale boosting.

I would love to see an Emperor on Horseback. In actual combat.

The lance was a devastating weapon used in combat. Why do you not wish to see it in combat?

Suppose you'll also want to be able to form a shieldwall and get a new defensive siege weapon 'Sharp n' sturdy stakes' for some anti-cavalry. Dream on :p

I would so hit retreating maneuver, get on my horse and spear the hell out of someone with a lance.

Do it. I need me a hood ornament.

Only if the mounted combat is at least as good as the mounted combat in Mount & Blade. Since that is impossible to implement in ESO in any realistic plane of Oblivion, the answer is NO. No way in Oblivion.

Things I want to be able to do in combat:
    • Emotes, but going from a safe state to combat should interrupt it
    • Log out, my enemy sucks if they can't kill me in 10 seconds
    • Interact with doors/seige, but we can't because our characters twitch out
    • Get on my horse, with some exceptions:
      • Horses don't gain stamina for 2 seconds so you can be immediately knocked off
      • This prevents players from escaping in the middle of combat on horses

EDIT: In regards to lances, those were designed to be used on a track.
You think you can spin on a horse holding an 8-foot pole?
I'd rather just use an axe!

...your idea wouldnt work unless they redesigned horse levels. No good having horse-mounted combat if you just get knocked off your horse after the first few hits (even with stamina build horse).
    Indeed it is so...

    Read your own article. "One-time-use"
Use it to charge in then it breaks.
You would be better off having a horse skill to charge with the horse and use a lance similar to Templar spears.

Maybe just make the lance a tree skill rather than a weapon, like the Nightblade Teleport Strike or that Templar charging attack. Some balance mechanics might be giving it a build-up animation warning to make it dodgable or a significant cool down.

Well, it would be awkward to have a weapon skill line, with no weapon.
I am thinking along the lines of Horse assault/support skills.
    Assault - Lance charge.
    Support - Group Cuddles.

I support this. If you have ever played The Dynasty Warriors series. Theres a good indication of mounted and unmounted combat

What about using horses themselves for damage? The more stamina, the more damage a horse could deal by running over enemies (on a suicide mission, maybe)? ;)

I remember when LOTRO introduced mounted combat. It was the beginning of the end. So bad. So very bad. They tried so hard to make it work. The speed just doesn't work. Nothing gets a bigger No from me. The moment they announce this, I'm out.

Its people with this attitude that make games stay the same/similar for many years simply because people are afraid to take chances. With proper research and develop, ment there is no reason that this could not be successful.

I don't want to see mounted combat in ESO.
What I do want is us being able to mount in combat.

It's annoying killing everyone in sight but you are still stuck in combat for a long duration and thus prohibited from mounting.
Being able to mount in combat would solve this issue.

As a previous poster said, if you mount up in combat, your horse starts with 0 stamina and give it couple of seconds before stamina starts regenerating.
