How much do racial skill lines matter at VR 1 and above?

Hi, folks!

I've always gravitated toward PvP in MMOs, and that's probably been 80% of my play time. However, I've enjoyed the questing and exploration so much in this game that I've kind of gone the opposite route.

I have done a little PvP (even went so far as to grind out all but 4 of the skyshards in Cyrodiil) but suffice it to say I'm still pretty new to ESO PvP.

Here's my question: How much do the racial skill lines really matter at endgame in Cyrodiil?

I'm running a Nightblade built around Ambush, Surprise Attack, and Impale with Dark Cloak and Swallow Soul to round out my utility. Incapacitating Strike is my ultimate. Armor is 5 Light and 2 Medium.

I have an High Elf at level 44 and an Orc at level 46. Stylistically, I prefer my Orc (even though I hated Orcs in every other MMO I've played, go figure) but I understand my Altmer racials are better suited for my build.

Will I notice any difference in performance at all once I hit Veteran Rank? I know the Orc bonus to health isn't exactly useless, but will I really be able to make up the difference in Magicka, Spell Resistance, and Magicka Regen on my gear? Or am I better off just sticking with the Altmer? I like both characters, but the Orc seems to be resonating better with my inner role-player for some reason.

Thanks in advance, y'all! :)

I see the dark elf for flame resistance, so much fire damage in dungeons and instances, it will help.

Honestly....they rest are okay IMO. Anything to do with regen can be capped with armour and/or enchanted items.

mDKs still need a lot of love!

Thanks for the reply, Elmojito! I normally wouldn't head to the forums, but I really haven't been able to find any theorycrafting on this subject elsewhere.

I guess to make my questions more specific, how difficult it is to overcharge your primary stats at VR levels with gear and enchantments?

And do you generally stop gearing for a stat once it's overcharged, or is it beneficial to keep stacking a stat in spite of it being overcharged?

Again, I apologize if these questions seem elementary, but the information has been hard to come by. Thanks again!

    :)

If I were you, I'd go with your Orc. It seems like that's what you wanna play and you certainly won't be gimped.

    That's my non-expert opinion.

I've heard you can overcharge all your stats without too much trouble. I'm not sure though how far past overcharged (if any) people try to get their stats.

The Racials once you're VR are pretty meh tbh. Sure having 1150 Resist to this or that class of magic at 3/3 is nice but that's only the equivalent of ONE epic Glyph. It doesn't HURT to build your Race to fit your Class and it's desired purpose but it's not remotely game changing or breaking if you don't.

Thanks so much for the help, guys. I really appreciate it.

I was a bit saddened to learn that the Orc racial "Swift" only works with Critical Charge, Focused Charge, and Shield charge, and not the Nightblade's Teleport Strike.

But them's the breaks. Thanks again! :D
