hireling question

For an alt skilled up just for the hireling is it sufficient to have 3/3 to get the best tempers and tannins, or do I need to get him to 50 also?

You can have 1/3 and still have chance to get gold tempers. I made alts for storage space, and made sure that they all had 1/3 hirelings.

Maximum boost to the craft occurs at level 40, you don't get any benefits after this (although there's no downside either).
And two hirelings are probably enough, unless you're crafting to sell.

Sorry, what I meant to ask is
Does either crafting level or player level affect the results of the hireling?
I didnt really mean to ask about 2/3 vs 3/3.

Are you saying that L40 crafting will get the best hireling, or just saying L40 for the sake of being able to spend other skillpoints?

The bonuses to crafting plataeu at level 40, it doesn't improve past this point, someone mentioned it on a thread asking if level50 in blacksmithing had any perks.

Once you reach level 40, your hirelings will bring you the best materials in theory, any further deveopment of the craft (which will happen anyway if you're using it) does effectively nothing.

How you choose to invest your skill points is up to you, I will never say do this or don't do that (well maybe with the exception of medium armour). I also won't say ignore the skill at this point, because now it can start producing the best gear for your level.

Here is what I have found. Each profession has a line that is devoted to making that type of equipment, like for Blacksmithing it is Metalworking. You can put 9 possible points in it. This determines the level of mats you can work with and at 40 you can put 9 points in them to use any material. Whatever the highest level material you can use is what they will bring you. So if you have Metalworking 1/9 and are 50 in blacksmithing you will still get Iron Ore. I don't think this changes with hireling level. Tempers are a different story since you can use any tempers at any level I believe you have a chance to get any at hirelings 1/3 but I have heard different things. According to the tooltip you should have the same chance of getting a gold at 2/3 as 3/3, just 3/3 you get it more often, but that is assuming the tooltip is correct.

    Say what?

    You have the *SAME* chance.
    You get it *MORE* often.

    Which is it?

It is both - at 3/3 the CHANCE that you get gold mats is the same as your chance at 2/3. 3/3 occurs twice per day. So, it's like flipping a coin once vs. twice a a day - whether you flip it once or twice it's still a 50% chance of either outcome each time you flip it. But by having 3/3 you get two flips of the coin a day instead of one.

(disclaimer: not actually claiming that it is 50% likely to get good mats, just trying to simplify my explanation)

Yeah, I've been really unclear on this, and don't want to waste more points than I already have on my 'toons by putting them towards the wrong stuff.

If I have 1 or 2 points into a hireling - I get 'stuff' once a day, except for the days that my hireling doesn't bother to send me stuff.

If I have 3 points in, I get stuff 'twice' a day, 'day' being dependent on whether I've logged in once every 12 hours of not, and varying on how many time's I've logged in to satisfy whether I get the 2nd delivery at all. So if I'm logged in for '14' hours and then don't log in for 49 hours, I don't have 5 deliveries waiting for me in my mailbox.
If I put 3 points in, I paid for 2 deliveries every 24 hours.

It's too contrived for me to bother with. Either I get my single delivery from a 1 or 2 point hireling every 24 hours, or I don't.

Either I WILL get my 2 deliveries every 24 hours from a '3 point hireling' or I will not, depending on whether he thinks my schedule is worthy of fulfilling the bargain?
Forget it. It's too filled with randomly inconsistent and missed deliveries compared to what Zen put in the tool tips.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

Haven't read the whole post, but I think 3/3 skill points is worth it. I have various characters at different crafting levels. Even a level 3 character can get a Gold Mat drop. It is pretty rare, but it does happen.

However, my main Crafter is a level 46 clothier with 3 skill points in hirelings, and I got 4 Dreugh Wax in the mail yesterday. That would not happen below level 40 or with only 1-2 skill points hirelings. If you actually take the time to get shards, there are plenty of skill points available. If you care enough about legendary mats to spend a skill point, go all in.

Also, it is true that you have to log in every day to get the mail drop (twice at 3/3). I have let a few characters go for several days without checking on purpose to see what happens. You only get one delivery, but I think that delivery is on average superior as more time passes. Disclaimer: Small sample size, and I still think its best to check every day.

To get your 2 mails pr day, you need to log in with 12 hours between.
So at 8am/8pm or 9am/pm interval, and do that each day to get them twice pr day.
The timer will reset from when you picked up the mail and the 12 hours forward, for the next mail to arrive.

I'll copy/paste a post from an old thread.

Material - You'll receive the highest level material your character can create with. (A maxed Blacksmith will receive Voidstones)
    - 1/3 3 units
    - 2/3 4 units
    - 3/3 5 units

Upgrade Material - RNG based, but receive bonuses bases on hireling level.

You'll also randomly receive race and trait gem materials. As you level the type of material you can create with, you'll eventually receive the more rare ones (Copper, Argentum, Palladium and Daedra Hearts)

Enchanting hirelings will give a random assortment of type and amount. Essence runes will be random. Potency runes will be one level above what you can use, at 9/9 you won't get Potency runes. Aspect Runes are RNG but receive bonuses based on hireling level.

The hireling timer starts as soon as you receive your mail. Once you receive your first mail tomorrow, it starts a 24 hour timer. You then have to log in to receive the mail and only then will the timer start again. The mail will not arrive if you don't log in. At 3/3 hireling, the timer changes to 12 hours.

I think the quality of tempers does depend on your craft level as well as the hiring level. So level 50 craft should provide better tempers than level 40 craft. No concrete data, but this is my theory.
