Drop Campaign and share?

Dear PvP community,

Yesterday I had a very interesting conversation. A player from an opposing faction messaged me and asked me to drop from the leaderboard. I have been emperor for chrysamere a handful of times during this campaign for the pact. I currently still occupy the number 1 spot with a few days left. The DC player provided his perspective and accused me of being a terrible friend to my guild mates and not a team player. He believes I should drop from boards so others can experience the top spot. While I understand that perspective, it goes against what I believe in as a player. I know a lot of camps swap emperor and just view it as a useless buff which it kind of is. That said, some players me included honor what the game developers had in mind. I don't believe dropping from the boards so others can farm the buff is what they intended. After talking with a friend in game, I decided to not drop and honor what I believe in. That said, I am curious what the community thinks of this. Thanks for your feedback.

I think you should hold it as long as you can, but once deposed, you strengthen your Alliance by dropping out of the leaderboards. The more people with the passive traits from the Emperor tree in an Alliance, the better it is for that Alliance.

The alliance gains nothing from crowning the same person over and over again. In the past I've chosen NOT to take the last keeps of the Imperial Circle when given the opportunity as there was no need to crown the same person for the third/fourth time. Instead, we went after scrolls.

If you see no value in that, in giving others incentive to capture the Imperial keeps, then that's on you.

The best should always be on top. Never let go of what you achieved less another can take it from you.

If I was your friend and guild mate,
I would be downright insulted if you abdicated for this reason.

My friends should be part of my motivation to do better.
I'd want to out-score you by my own means.

PvP is about competition. Standing down less your retiring is not in the spirit of competition. Everyone wants stuff to be "fair". I hear people who are casuals complaining "its not fair i cant play as much as others, ill never be emperor, boo who". Competitive play isn't supposed to be fair. Im a casual and know ill never be emperor, but I like to see my numbers climb on those leaderboards.
I went on a tangent, stay at the top!

You earned your slot through hours of dedication. Hold it and don't think of doing otherwise unless you are 'retiring'. I find it silly that players would ask others to give up on all the hard work they've done.

Even if you are bombarded with work and other aspects of real life, it is still possible to climb the leaderboards. (Give up sleep! :D)

As much as i think Emp swapping is a grey area, Handing it to friends and guild mates OR letting them catch up to pass you is an okay thing to do.

Chrysamere is another story. Dropping the campaign and then getting tier 3 reward would be hard. there isn't that much pvp to catch up to tier 3 within the 8 days left. (Chrysamere is deadish)

Personally, If I ever received emperorship I would enjoy it for 1 night, then let my buddies pass me.(but I wouldn't quit campaign).

I have helped crown the same emperor 8 times in a row. and guess what..He's been AFK for weeks. and I have 470k more to go to pass the DC AFK emperor of chrysamere.

Kind of defeats the whole "spirit of competition" so to speak. Everyone doesn't need a first place medal. Someone wins and someone loses, such is life.

    Nelkie for emperor 2k14.

Ahem. The only time an emperor should step down is if they are unsubbing from the game or or are otherwise going to be gone for a long period of time. You earned that spot on the leaderboards (unless you're an exploiter, in which case, step down, too), they can earn it too.
