We are very happy to announce that Update 1, including Craglorn, will hit the live servers starting tomorrow, when we’ll be bringing the servers offline to begin deploying Update 1. This update delivers new four-player quests and delves, more exploration, our first 12-player Trials, and a host of fixes and improvements. Offline maintenance will begin on Thursday, May 22 (tomorrow!) at 8 AM EDT for the North American megaserver and at 10 PM EDT for the European Megaserver. Craglorn and the rest of Update 1 will be available to players after the end of the maintenance period.

Well I was wrong, I've said for a while Zeni would pre-announce the release it with more pomp and hype, they didn't...lol
Well played Zeni, I tip my hat to you !

    Sweet!

Sucks I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon for an extended weekend (well that doesn't really suck but...), can't wait to get back next week and experience the fixes. I got a ways to go to V10 so the craglorn part is not on my "yay" list just yet. I mean ysy its more content...just that I wont see it for some time =)

As long as it isn't past 5PM EDT (which I doubt considering it starts at 8AM).

Btw Blizzard and SOE, 10 years later, have 10+ h maint sometimes after patching.

My rule is to never expect to play at all on patch day.

Not quite old geezer but yeah, 12 years in, playing on patch day not guaranteed. Between downtime and laggy/buggy crap... hotfixes and everything else...

Because the average american believes they are the center of the world and everyone uses this crap.
They should use their secret military time called "zulu"... or "GMT" like the rest of the world calls it.

    Pretty much.

You are talking to international customers so use the international convention GMT/UTC. But who could be surprised having our EU server located in Texas, anyways?

The average American deals with a single country that spans 4(minimum, dont remember if HI uses AK time) time zones whereas most of Europe does not.

On top of it, a few states such as AZ dont use daylight savings, spending half the year at PST and half at MST.

That said, I deal with Central Europe often. Its 9 hours ahead of me.

Canada doesnt use GMT either btw.

I am very displeased this is happening JUST before MDW. I understand that every country doesn't celebrate that holiday but still its a kick in the ***.

Wait until the day before and announce it, all my plans were made. I am salty to say the least.

You are right... wo do not deal with 4 timezones. ( 5 with hawai I think )

    We have 5.
    ( actually it´s 4-5 depending on stuff I dont care about )
That´s why the International Standard Organisation ( ISO ) did a great job "inventing" standards ;)
Using them makes life easier for everyone.

There are hotfixes and then there are eso hotfixes. To me, hotfix usually means a patch that only requires a server reboot. In eso, hotfixes often means hours of downtime. Note that I don't mind "hours of downtime" if the game needs to be patched. I am pointing out the difference.

Actually because the average Bethesda employee assumes the average earthling can do simple math.

Perhaps they shouldn't give a timezone at all. This way its fair for everyone as we all have an equal chance of figuring out when the actual patch goes in, barring the frustration one would feel that all Americans are self entitled because of the timezone a gaming company listed for their patch release.

Esxcuse me, because Ive taken several years of maths in the university and Im yet to be teached what the NA acronyms for timezones mean and wich are their relations to the ISO norm for timezones, GMT/UCT.

I hope Im teached it soon so I can stop being an earthling.

NA = North America as in NA megaserver. EU = European Union as in EU megaserver.

ZOS being a company located on the East Coast of the U.S. usually tells time in EDT = Eastern Daylight Time. New York City, Washington DC are cities on EDT.

ZOS uses CEST = Central European Summer Time for EU megaserver maintenance. Countries like France and Germany are on CEST.

This is for the summer months.

10pm EDT Thursday is the same as 4am CEST Friday. That is the time that the EU maintenance will begin. Hope that helps clarify!

End of the matter is NA server gets it on Thursday, EU server gets it on Friday. Least now we all know !
