The Tangled Knot of ESO

Arklorn

I feel like there are so many issues floating around with ESO. It's like a big tangled knot. Any time I come across a problem which is huge and seemingly insurmountable, I simple work on one knot at a time. The biggest mess is usually composed of little problems that roll into one big gridlock of indecision and analysis paralysis. I have no idea how to address the issues, but I can say I gave ESO an honest try. The grind kills me. The running around with little progression in a straight line which you can't circumvent is infuriating. It's not too late to revamp and try something new, a new approach with a system that allows some freedom whether it be by some sort of scaling based on zone or some other mechanic to allow FREEDOM. There is so much content that I REALLY want to explore and would pay to see, but not at the cost of hours of grinding thru the same old same old I've done a million times. PLEASE take the training wheels off. I know you have a good product and great content, but most of us are never going to see it. I suspect I'm not in the minority. I suspect that the number of people who bought the game, gave it a try and cancelled their subscription in the first 3 weeks is enormous.

I love your combat system. I considered bypassing the god awful side quests and grinding it out, but the progression was just too slow. I do like so much of what you brought to the table, but the training wheels and confined scope of what I can do sours the experience.

How'd you manage to go in a straight line? Some of the ping-pong effect of side quests make us dizzy...more left turns than a NASCAR race...

    ;)

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

Any time I see the words "straight line" or "on rails" in a post, I can generally assume that the poster hasn't actually tried exploring.

Well I mean there are several ways to play the game, you can complete all the quests or you can run the world bosses/public dungeons and finish the dolmens / rinse repeat to VR 10 questing is totally optional but people refuse to try ALL of these other things that are put into the game that are efficient at leveling you >_> but whatever keep believing that you HAVE to do EVERY quest just to level psh.

Edit: I say optional but there are at least like 50-60 quests in the game that you HAVE to complete for sure.

OP, is this your first MMO? I have never played one where the enemies' level scales to your own. That would cause all kinds of *** considering you'd have lvl 5 players doing endgame content.

I'm three weeks in and have one broken 12th level Sorcerer and one fairly competent 7th level Templar. I have heard there are solo dungeons, but the first dungeon I ran across kicked my butt and I suspect is designed for multiplayer. I really am not a strong player. I have to get my son just to help me at times to get past bosses. I try to shy away from group instances as I'm usually a liability...thus I solo PVE most of the time. I just don't have more than an hour or so a day to play. The progression doing quests is acceptable, but I'll look into world bosses. Again I doubt I'll ever get to that point as I'm frustrated with the game and the elements listed above make the over all experience...poor.

Also have you looked at the help guide on the ESO site? They don't even list the classes... I know there are lots of other good resources, but it speaks of a larger issue...

As for the straight line, I mean that you have to finish most of the quests in a zone to get high enough level to get to the next. Maybe that changes in the 20 to 30 level range but I will never see a character at that level. And maybe that is why you see the same themes of posts again and again, because whether people admit it or not many are only going to give this game till like 15th level to "snag" them. I'm spending my time (which I don't have a lot of) making a request and hopefully sharing my insight into how to address some of the problems. I don't know how to fix the problems, but people like me...the people who bought an account for myself and my two sons, all of whom only play occasionally an hour here and there, are the people who will fund the progression, evolution and end game content that we will likely never participate in. Ironic ;) but true.

Hm, strange. I had the problem in the beginning that I ran around, finding quests all over the place and didn't manage to decide what quest to do. This is the least stream-lined MMO I've played in a long time, there are hubs, but there are also a lot of quests around the world, some with hilarious results.

The game is daunting at times, though, it's not half as bad as The secret world is in the start. If you think ESO have training wheels, then try the opposite end of that scale. What Funcom does with "The secret world" is strip you naked and throw you to the wolves. Not explanation, no tutorial island, here's your murky town with fog and a whole lot of Stephen King invaded it, have fun.

MMOs are grinding. Be it questing or monsters or dungeons, MMOs are about grinding. Grinding your way to the top of the mountain, only to see a content patch of a new mountain in the distance that you know you'll have to scale eventually. That's MMOs, that's how they work.

Off topic but the secret world does have a tutorial, the subway segment where you learn the basics. Beyond that you're on your own yes. I LOVE that game, modern setting, quests without markers where you have to *gasp* think, mature friendly crowd etc. its what I play when I want a break from eso.

I think eliminating bots should be priority one because they're so visible and really detract from the atmosphere etc
