Hi hi,

since a few others seems to have issues similar to my own, I thought it'd be nice if we all pitched in, and described our own issues, and what workaround we have... after all, not all others might have thought about it :).

I personally, have a little issue, where if things get too fast, or I get stressed, my fingers get well... confused.

This is particularly bad if playing a summoner type of character, as often, I'd end up unsummoning something, rather than summon what I want.

The obvious solution, usually, is to spread the keys (1,2 for main attacks, 5 7 9 for summons).

In ESO however, this does not work if we swap weapons, as we end up having hard to reach keys. The counter I found to this, as a mage, is to equip a fire destro staff, with the CC /AOE on the keys where the summons are. When in a "panic" moment, If I manage to switch weapon, I then switch to full dps mode, and when the fingers are just mashing the keyboard on their own, being a DPS AOE/damage, that can become quite useful and efficient.

The alternative being to have crystal ball slotted, and cast it. The cast time is usually enough to calm things down a bit.

For lockpicks, I'm usually ok. I screwed up master levels a few times, but always manage them somehow. I guess the timer is not aggressive enough to trigger panic mode :).

I totally hear you there. I have limited dexterity since having a stroke a few years ago and my fingers sometimes miss keys or don't press them properly. I use a low profile keyboard to make this easier, but as my fingers lack full feeling, this affects my dexterity.

I find lockpicking in its current form impossible. Because it has the silly timer on it, this makes me rush and mess it up. Therefore, I have no other choice but to force it.

What I need is a crowbar!

Lock picking is a lot easier for me since I learned to right click when the pin starts to wiggle. That sets the pin and I don't have to release the left mouse button to do it. Hope that helps

With the weapon swap problem that I have (I kept hitting weapon swap at the wrong time), I just changed the weapon swap keybind to something out of the way so that I wouldn't accidentally hit the key at the wrong time. I put it on F5.

I don't have any disability, but something came into my mind: do you use the extra mouse buttons? For example for me weapon swap and activating abilities are on these mouse buttons. Maybe it would help you. :)

I would suggest 2 things 1.) A razor naga and 2.) A razor Nostromo. These two things will make any your life much easier I would think. I am missing 2 fingers on my left hand and couldnt play without them.

my mouse has a 5 button system the 3 normal

the other two I have set up to, auto run and weapon swapping, with the swapping right at the fighting buttons, its easier to fast swap without panic and hitting the keyboard to find it :)

I have made keybind V to interrupt instead of the two button system, faster and easier again, though im thinking of making my auto run button on my mouse to this instead

The first thing I did when I found out we could move key binds -- Ultimate is now F4, Quickslot is now F2, Interupt is now R, and dodgeroll is now B. I also have unbound the T key so that quest I'm on always shows up and it doesn't keep cycling through every time I accidentally hit the T.

@ArRashid‌ please don't make fun of other people's issues, you have absolutely no way to understand someone else's issues since you are not in their shoes. These issues that affect game play and are not minor in any way shape or form.

I know this probably won't help with lockpicking, but in regards to you keyboard...

Have you tried a gaming keyboard with good mechanical switches like Cherry MX Red Switches for example? With mechanical switches you get a clicking noise to help know when a key has been pressed, so if you are not able to feel the actuation of the key in your fingers you could at least hear the click to confirm the key was pressed.

It might require some testing though with different switches to see which ones provide the best ease of use for you with your sense of touch. Reds tend to be the most sensitive of the Cherry MX brand. I have a keyboard with Red switches that I swear I can register keystrokes just by breathing heavily upon the keys because they are so sensitive. Given your dexterity/sense of touch, reds may be overly sensitive and cause you to press keys when you didn't mean to more often, but if you tried something like Cherry MX Blue or Brown switches, you might be able to find a good compromise.

Sadly though, these types of keyboards aren't cheap, so I would recommend finding a store that has demo models before you buy one.

I have limited use of my hands - something wrong with my thumbs - might be arthritis - carpal tunnel has been ruled out. I find it hard to do any group play or long dungeons because I have to stop for a break when I need to stop and can't keep up an intense pace. Therefore I would like a few more solo levelling options and the option to be able to group if needed for boss fights (which can also be pretty intense on the paws).

Buh? Not sure why you felt the need to post this nasty, mean-spirited little rant in such a thread.

I have multiple sclerosis, and I can assure you that my problems are in fact and caused by my condition. I was diagnosed in 2010; at the time, I was raiding in World of Warcraft. I had been struggling with odd little maladies off and on for a couple of years leading up to the big event, but nothing prepared me for what happened: I was stricken with optic neuritis in both eyes, multiple times -- a series of unusually severe attacks that ultimately left me totally blind (temporarily) in the fall of that year and which permanently damaged my vision.

Although I did slowly regain my sight, the differences in my vision, cognition, reaction time, and dexterity were profound and I could no longer do many things I could do before -- in gaming or in real life.

Please take your bad attitude elsewhere.

I have mad my interrupt key my wheel button because I can only occasionally get both fingers to flex at the same time. I changed my mouse free look to my . key so that it is intentional and not done in the middle of combat. I use a Perdition RedDragon mouse with 1-12 on the side in a wave pattern and the first 6 sit under my thumb so that is my 1-5 and R buttons. As I don't have a toon over L12 yet, I've not worried about weapon swapping.

Well I didn't want to sound like an ass. It's just a personal opinion. I think that just as fat couch-rats shouldn't play first-league in sports, people with disabled fingers/eyes/etc shouldn't play games requiring heavy dexternity. I have 140 kg and you won't see me skateboarding, even though I'd want to.

These games are helping a lot of times for people, who has problems with small movements or if they are slow in reacting. It's not a joke, it's confirmed by doctors. So your example doesn't really fit, cause sports help ppl to get in shape.

I've been a ES player for 20 years and I am not going to stop doing the things I enjoy most just because parts of my body have given up. Am I just supposed to sit in a corner and be miserable and stare at the wall for the rest of my life? I won't let my pain limit what I do or define me, although sometimes I have to do things differently.

as ive mentioned in another thread, i have a mental disability. the docs think its schizo affective disorder.

i have come off most of my meds now due to bad side effects, and i suffer quite alot from stress. things cause me to freeze up and panic. i cant really be doing with alot of things going on at once, or alot of noise.

so, im grinding alot while i explore, to get a feel for my class and learn the fights well, so i know what to press automatically in a stressful situation.

the game has improved my life in so many ways. now i have something to look forward to every day :) i cant go out much in real life, so its great to be able to explore and have these experiences. :)

i am struggling to communicate in the game, because of shyness. at first i made my own channel with no-one on it. lol. and i set my social thing to "do not disturb". now i feel a bit braver, so ive added to my channel the setting where if someone says something close to me i will see it. and also set my social thing to "online".
    hello :)

I personally, have a little issue, where if things get too fast, or I get stressed, my fingers get well... confused.

Me too. Thanks for starting this thread.

Actions that are instinctive/automatic for most people are things I have to consciously think about. I'm slow and easily muddled as far my reactions/responses are concerned. I'm not a great navigator either.

I've always been mildly dyspraxic, but this has been made worse in recent years by progressive osteoarthritis and autoimmune disease. I jokingly always blame playing a bard in early EQ1 for the arthritis being so bad in my hands! Those who played back then will probably remember why. ;)

I found the dodge mechanism in ESO really difficult at first, but I'm slowly getting there with lots of practice. This is why my main is a sorc, however. I've found that having two pets really helps to balance out my slow or simply inaccurate responses. I also found lengthening the time allowed between the double keypresses for dodge very helpful.

My sorc has allowed me to practice the mechanics I find difficult in relative safety, and now I'm a lot better, if still far from brilliant, at playing the petless classes. I die a lot less, anyway. :) I can also open master chests now, though not always at first attempt.

So yeah, gone are the days when I could class myself a valuable raider, but the wonderful thing about ESO is that there is still plenty for me to do and enjoy without spoiling anyone else's game in the process.

I deleted the 'wall of text' where I was somewhat 'passionate' in my reply to another poster. I also explained my disabilities in some length but will just list the two main conditions that affect / effect me here. I have ataxia and fibromyalgia.

I have had to adapt my playtime (and life in general) in many ways because of my disability or because I am differently able.

    Some of my adaptations;
    • I find using a wireless mouse easier to use than a wired one. (Mine is well shaped for a comfort fit too).
    • I have a keyboard with chunky well spaced keys.
    • I have a chuncky joystick for some games.
    • I sometimes use a speach recognition program for various computer activities.
    • Where possible, I sometimes change key binds to make spaces so as not to hit the wrong key.

Maybe some of you will find these adaptations of use in your own gaming.

With my limited eyesight I find that a 27" monitor helps. My fingers are toast like some of you as well. I frequently hit tilde during extreme battles. It is not a pretty sight to see my character switch to pillow fight mode from a 2 hand sword. LOL. I may die a little more often than many but I find the game to still be fun. Except for those solo boss fights. :( BTW, the only reason that you are able to read this post is spell check. My fingers are just as bad at typing as they are at fighting. :)

I have MS which has many symptoms for me but what really restricts my gameplay is that I have involuntary movement of my fingers sometime that van lead to the odd Leroy Jenkins moment as my fingers can lock in place. I also have partial numbness in my fingers which get worse with use. Overall I've had little issue with the games difficulty or anything but because of my issues, I don't do any group dungeons and Craglorn is not gonna happen for me unless I can find a guild that's a little understanding which isn't easy to find these days.

Edit: I find that using wrist straps, the one you use for injury, help me keep better coordination + I also have a circulation booster (Not cheap) that helps with my issues although a neurologist will tell you that it doesn't do anything but in my mind, anything that stimulates nerves can help and does. I use it when sat for long periods at the computer.

Thank you all those that posted their tips and adjustment, or different able ways :)

This post is a big lenghty, sorry :).

I understand someone was a bit naughty in there?

May I suggest everyone, if possible, to completly ignore comments that could be disruptive, as this thread is just an attempt at getting a list of sort of hint and tricks we use to still be able to enjoy our hobbies, and ignore, as we usually painfully have to daily, any kind of attacks, voluntary or not :) It just clogs up the thread, and some of us might start having issue keeping focused if the thread becomes too lenghty and plagged with useless stuff of the kind :)

No offense meant to the few that replied of course, but if you could kindly edit your post/replies to those, to a . or something similarly short, or simply put "self removed", to help clear the air a bit :)

For the future posters, if you do not mind, and if you know it, could you add your issue(s) name, so if someone specifically looks for it, he/she will find your reply easier and faster :).

@zubba don't say that, or the bots will give you a job as character creator! :)

I'd suggest we call ourselves "The untouchables", but I'm not sure everyone will have the humour needed to agree to that, another thread for another day I'm sure :) For the guild idea, feel free to pm me on the forums, when they're enabled again, and if there's enough interest in it, I'll try to organize something.

Basically they just help by putting buttons in a more easily accessible area. For me at least. Not saying they would help with panic issues, but if its just a matter of not finding the keys fast enough this would help.

    Sounds like a great idea.

Id like to join that guild, think that be a lot of fun!

Try Dragon speech recognition, can use that and keyboard as needed for things.

The razer's are all good. I like the 10 key myself. Can change the keys for what I need it for, some have multiple configurations, so you can just switch as the need requires.

Camera mouse for those that want to know more,

Pretty cool software, free, might find a way to incorporate into game.
Has a configuration that you can hotkey to turn it on, there might be a delay.

Bandicam, twitch, Personally I like to keep logs of everything, its just a thing that helps me out. Bandicam is pretty good, free version I think is still 10mins.

Twitch is a pain for me but I am hopeful it improves now that youtube has it.
Twitch does require broadcasting software. Little laggy for me, I dont even try to pvp with it on.

I like bandicam for the pvp, big number events, can record everything, stop recording when going afk, pick up where you left off etc.

Some of the add-ons helps as well: multicraft, warlegend (visuals hp/mp/sp), ftc, lui, alchemist, multi-quest thing, to name a few.

Thats about it really, god bless and have fun with it!

Playing an interactive game like this one also helps with mental acuity. With the brain, use it or lose it is a real consequence.

I have fibromyalgia too and with they way the symptoms work, I never know what I'm dealing with day to day. Add to that diabete, pancreatic cancer, post traumatic stress disorder...the list really does go on.

The people at the greatarchitect.us guild have been very kind and helpful with helping me get better at this game. Probably because they have actually watched me play and been able to make suggestions based on that. I've joined them.

Currently they have pvp/large group guilds for EP and DC. I'm working on building one up for AD.

So far I have not had one single person there tell me L2P.
