The fact that DK is so ridiculously OP has sort of left me to have no sympathy for anyone playing the class. Granted its not your fault the class has been the top since release, it just doesn't feel right to help you. Sorry.

What I always do when I have trouble with a boss or what ever, is, I change skills so that I can approach the problem with a different set of skills and I keep doing that until I find a skill set that works.

That is the beauty of ESO you get basically all of the skills so if you try them all and get good at using them all you will succeed in all circumstances without the need to reroll.

This works for any class, you don't have to be a DK, NB, Sorcerer, or Templar just change your skills and get comfortable in the rotation of them and see if you do better, simple as that.

I think if you want real advice, you should give more details of what your setup is. Most people probably just hear Vamp Dk and assume you roll with mistform/bats/shieldbash/talons or whatever the strong DK builds are, so if you aren't then people will have something to work with.

If you are using a build that's known to be good, then maybe people will be able to help you about skill choices, etc. So, I'd say tell everyone what armor and weapon types you use, and what skills are on your hotbars, and they might come down off those horses.

Well your first problem is using the calculator instead of actually figuring out what works for you, and how you approach a fight.
I am loving the Vet levels now, since the challenge is so much better.
Best advice to give you is find a comfortable skill set that works for you, and think out a fight before you go into it.
I have never respected, played my main character 1-50, and got to v1 realized that I might need a bit of tactics change.
I just swapped out some skills on the bar, and now can roll into the group of 3 mobs with some damage coming my way, but usually survive.
I am a Templar Heavy Tank, and don't even use the spear.
Just take some time to experiment out some things, and you will be fine.

You do realize hes looking for a spec that works and your advice to him is to find a spec that works?...................................................

Well lets see o great one...
If you note I told him I found out that I needed to experiment a bit to find one that works. As in try out a few things. Um, yeah, that's advice.
Yep, I told him using the calculator was not the best idea, because even with it, not everyone uses the same mindset in their play, so the strategy he will still have to work on. So yeah, advice again.
So in other words, my advice was to simply swap out some skills, try them out and then see which one works the best for him.
    That's pretty sound advice.
Now if he does not like that answer, or the idea of working on a few skill swaps, then that's his call, if I need your opinion I ll be sure to ask your mom to yell down to the basement for it.
Now you may go back to eating your Cheetos and mouth breathing.

Hey mate, VR10 DK here. The best advice I can give you is to have a good build.

    1. You need a self heal at all times, and Dragon's Blood is great for this. This is one of the best abilities we have, so if you are not using it, then you better start right now.

    2. Dragonknight Standard will handle mobs of 3 to 5, if you block while using it. I suggest farming up your ultimate before you fight any bosses or elites, as you'll usually need it.

    3. Gap closer onto a ranged enemy and use Dark Talons. You want to burst down the ranged mobs (caster > archer) while locking the melee out of range with roots.

    4. Next, you'll want a decent magicka AoE. Personally, I use Burning Breath. A cone of fire damage with a pretty decent damage over time, and it reduces armour by 40%.

    5. Its very important to have a stamina dump. I don't know what weapon you are using, but I usually run with Reverse Slash -> Executioner from the two handed weapon tree.

    6. If you struggle on trash mobs no matter what you do, start using Petrify. If you don't hurt the enemy, it stuns them for 15 seconds. Plenty of time to even the odds.

Other than that, you need to block often and farm your ultimate if it gets difficult.

You cannot play anyway you want, simple fact is not every class will be viable in V+ levels.

First I wanted to play purely a sneaky 2H barbarian, but nope.... if I only use 2H weapon I get no ultimate ability unless I join a guild or take magical class abilities. Plus weapon skills are pretty lame on most weapons compared tot he class skills.

So I changed to a NB ranger, works at the moment in lower levels and having a blast, but from what I heard, in VR levels I will have to respect.

Play anyway you want, as long as it includes destro + restro staff...

With the way the game is designed right now, the best way to get to VR10 without pain is to take use of Magicka, as all your class abilities scales with this stat.

    Go 49 Magicka

Get Destruction staff as main, and restoration as off. Keep your heals and buffs on restoration, and every dps ability on your main. I can link you my build but only if you request it, won't waste my time making it otherwise.

You need to respec. I am VR1 DK no vamp or ww but i can easily take down 5 guys right now...I was even disappointed with Molag Bal fight bc that was so easy. I am specced 25 magika - 24 stamina. Using the medium armor ability + ash cloud + my aoe's drops guys fast and I am able to easily stay alive. I use 2-hand and one-hand, shield. Also, Armor, Weapons, Draconic and Earthen passives are all maxed; that really makes a big difference.

You can try removing elemental drain and use sea of flames, works really well when you are aoeing loads of mobs. If you lack restoration skills and armor, you can equip two heavy items (chest and head or legs, whichever) to gain more armor and healing. Having your armor overcharged helps in vet.
