Solution to bolt-escape AND shield bash spam

Where are all the magicka and stamina draining abilities? If there were ways to help whittle down a sorcs magicka to prevent him from inevitable escape or just bolting around you like a mad man until you die, OR could stop all those heavy armor and shield wielders who block and bash til win, MAYBE we wouldn't see as many people complaining about getting wrecked by such tactics.

While I recognize these are perfectly acceptable strategies, there needs to be better counters. I think that the addition of magicka and stamina draining abilities in some form accessible to players could greatly relieve this problem most face in pvp, which is roll heavy armor and shield bash and/or DK, or roll sorc, or lose.

I try to keep my personal frustrations out of this suggestion, however they're bound to surface so please excuse me for that, however I ask that in this discussion we merely look at the addition to draining spells in general, and how it relates to pvp and the current popular issues.

So, thoughts?

    Lets just remove all abilities from the game.

    We can walk around hitting each other with light attacks.

    That way no one will have any fun and everything will be so "balanced."

    Instead of generating a typical sarcastic pvp remark, why not explain to me why you would think magicka/stamina drains would be a bad addition to pvp as seems to be your standpoint? Or you just comment on all attempts to balance pvp like this, I couldn't say.

    I mean, you could also just make more comments that don't progress thought on the subject. Whatever floats your boat. But I prefer the route that brings us closer to the ideal rather than settling for less.

    He doesn't want balance, he just wants to be able to abuse his broken abilities to win. Bash is getting nerfed in the craglorn patch.

    Yeah I did know about the changes to bash damage in the craglorn patch, I'm certainly glad they're working on it.

    I suppose the frustrations with bolt-escape and bash spam were merely a vehicle for my public questioning of why there are no magicka-drain or stamina-drain abilities available to players?

    I feel like it could be a great addition to pvp, and don't fully get why the elderscrolls franchise dropped the idea since it was used in previous games to a certain extent.

    Magica and stamina drain seriously? Just think about what would happen if they would be introduced to the game.

    Right people would use them and therefore would totally negate every single other skill wich uses magica or stamina. Actually everyone would asap use nothing else than these drains and this would lead to ...?

    Right ranting and calls for nerfes since these drain abilities totally broke the game.

    While I recognize that as a worst case scenario possibility, is it not possible to introduce the mechanic in a very mild manner, maybe one that's not available for everyone to spam or has a downside?

    Playing devil's advocate does have it's benefit, but if no one give's ideas a second thought because of what COULD go wrong then no progress would be made.

    I don't like the idea of magicka and stamina drains simply because of the way the resources are used in the game. It feels kinda trolly and like a new form of CC. Implementing a system like this would require them to also implement some way to stop these drains, or you'd run into the same problem that older MMOs had with chain CC. The meta strategy would be all about draining stamina and/or magicka to leave your opponent helpless.

    It seems like an overly complex and development heavy addition to the game. I don't necessarily see the problem it solves or what fun factor it adds.

    It also is a new way to take away people's ability to control their characters, react to situations, ect.

    My favorite thing about the combat system in this game is no cool downs. Resource management is the name of the game and if you run out its no one's fault but your own.

    Also, I do apologize for being flippant and dismissive in my original post. I was a bit amped up from the gagillion nerf this nerf that threads circulating around.

    If you want to fix the bolt escape issue, change immovability in a way that it doesnt allow you to teleport anymore.

    If you want to fix the shield bash issue, simply raise the stam cost for it.

    You bring up some valid points, some similar to those that have been mentioned already some unique.

    I guess a large issue presented with the addition of stamina/magicka drains is the substantial effort needed for it to be implemented to combat a few techniques that should probably be just changed in and of themselves to alleviate the problem instead.

    With all of this being said, completely looking aside from current popular issues and how they relate to this suggestion, I still have to imagine that there's a way to implement such a system, given enough time, so that it could have some real benefits to the game in general.

    Whether that be making it susceptible to interrupts, or making the bonus or damage so minuscule that there would be more harm than good done out of spamming it. If it could be done so perfectly delicately, I think I'd welcome the change.

    But as was mentioned, it's a change that is so monumental in nature compared to how the game foundation is laid out, resources would probably be best diverted elsewhere in the development of this game.

    All in all, I'd say it was worth a thought ;P
