I chose to delve deeper into a different style of play using the widely known DPS class "Sorcerer", and the heavy armor skill line. It's paired with the One Handed skill tree to show how powerful and different the range of play we've been provided by the developers in creating a very one of a kind tank hybrid. Given then roles of the "holy trinity" or the tank, healer, and DPS parts played by most if not all MMO's, the use of a ranged DPS class paired with a very defensive reinforcement of heavy armor has faired very well with me so far in my extensive experience in the online world of Tamriel.

This build will change given updates and tweaks to different abilities, you the player should realize what you'll be getting out of this build...

1. This was created as a Tanking class that has beneficiaries of ranged DPS to supplement aggro and harassment to help control the battlefield. Also, realize that this build may not tailor to your every need as the experience for every player may vary based on skill or personal preference be it the appearance of for example, "Bound Armor" or your specific wants or needs of how the character performs at ranged distance or in melee combat.

2. There are weaknesses to every build. The Battle tank sorcerer build is crafted towards ranged DPS as its bread and butter of main skills for aggro.

3. I highly recommend using your weapon swap in a experimental way by you the player mixing and matching new ideas as you see fit to mix up and also develop new ideas for up and coming or new players of our community in the future.

Attributes

This is mainly due to the need for the relevance of your Storm calling abilities along with the other sorcerer and guild skill abilities. Stamina is important as well and it does need attention. However, shield bashing by interrupt is the most important mechanic to this build. (P.S. blocking when extra stamina is available is recommended.)

Tanking (AoE)

Endless Fury - Used when picking apart large groups of enemies, preferably more substantial when used during the middle of the pull. If you find yourself degenerating magika which this ability gains extensive value to keep your DPS rolling with it's replenishment of from a killing blow.

Thundering Presence - The amount of mitigation it provides is enormous. This ability really shines during AoE pulls especially when Ranged spell casters are present.

Pierce Armor - (Switchable VS melee and weapon swap) A synergistic taunt that lowers enemy spell resistance. Very effective during boss fights. Possible Synergy

Inner Beast - (Switchable VS ranged and weapon swap) A synergistic taunt that is extremely effective when facing ranged groups. Scales well with increased attributes in magika. Possible Synergy

Volcanic Rune - AoE that helps relieve stress from healers by adding a knockback effect. Best used versus targets that are clumped or have maintained your agro.


Ultimate - Greater Storm Atronach - Who doesn't love an angry rock giant? AoE sustainability and additional duration adds extended DPS and can help taunt straggling enemies.

When I decided to make this a DPS focused tank, I realized that there had to be a balance between actually damaging the mobs and keeping my shield at the ready. This is definitely an extremely fun and interesting twist to that idea.


Weapon Swap
Tanking (Single Target)

Immovable - Increased armor, spell resistance, knockback and disabling effects for 8 seconds. Great for bosses that teleport and target group members.


Bound Armor - Yes, Master Shredder is back. He's purple, intimidating, and has a hefty bonus to your armor rating.

Low Slash - Deals physical damage with a 15% reduction to your enemies weapon damage, also snares.

Degeneration - DoT that also provides a small amount of health regeneration. This ability can enhance Dark Exchange's recovery time.

Velocious Curse - Instant cast with an increased detonation time. Very good for long boss fights. It can also be destructive of boss minions.

Ultimate - Absorption Field - A great way to eliminate damage before it causes a problem. This skill has a huge radius and can be easily placed in enemy effects to help prevent a dodge roll circus.

Situational Plug-ins

Dark Exchange - Drains stamina to regain health and magicka. Very effective while using a damage mitigation spell or ability.

Absorb Magick - Increased block mitigation and allows for additional healing. Ranged mobs can be temporarily neutralized depending on the group with this alone.

These are the basics to an extremely fun DPS tank build that has proven it's value in every situation! It's fun, versatile, and very good at drawing you into the combat. I will highly recommend this build for any PvE situation. If you're an avid PvP'er I would suggest using mitigation and defensive cool downs in exchange for the melee and range taunts. Though no matter who you are I feel that if you choose to experience this unusual mix between a tank and sorcerer you will undoubtedly get a true taste of the customization and freedom we've been given by ZoS. With a bolt of lightening in one hand and your shield in the other, enemies will cower in fear at the face of theMaelstrom Shield!

    Might have to try this build. Love my 2H sword, heavy Sorcerer tank. Very hard to kill and good DPS output.

    We are using almost the same exact build, I use my food too cap my other resources. Glad I'm not the only one who see's this. However I have not been able too see if the staff side works well or not I am going too try this at a later date
