Well actually i think that if there is something that really could bring in some more "life" and real guild-action into pvp here at TESO, it would be to give guilds a real reason to defend their keeps.

As by now, except of seeing your name at the map and using your guild store while in the keep (and tbh both isnt worth the effort to defend your keep at all) there is nothing you are able to gain if you defend your keepand hold it for quite some time.

They should just add more PVP skill lines that require higher Realm Ranks - this would be a good incentive, that would be similar to what DAOC had.

I keep seeing the DAOC vs ESO comparison more and more. ESO was advertised as having some of the DAOC RvR into it and thats true to some extent, heck, they even got a DAOC "star" they hired/used as a smart marketing advertisment trick.

Lets make abstraction for a second of the over simplified pvp mechanics and of all the unwanted issues (its 2nd month after launch after all).

DAOC was a PvP oriented mmo in wich everything revolved around PvP. ESO is a single player game with some multiplayer aspects (dungeons, limited grouping and soon to have 12 man zone) and a PvP instance. Further more the general trend is to tone down the skilled players to be less competitive against the average player as to acomodate the masses.

They want more players for a short run rather then a smaller but faithful community for the long run. That is why in a few years noone will even remember this game while people will stil talk about DAOC as being one of the best PvP mmos out there. I wouldnt be surprised if ESO closes the last server before DAOC doese :D

Take into consideration that they've increased the ammount of realmpoints you get in daoc by what, at least 5-10 times? Also, people got a lof of realmpoints during events and bonus weekends.

My thane for example that ended up being my main when i moved to US servers in 2006 hit rr8 with about 18.000 kills. My shaman that i rolled much later hit rr7L8 with just over 2000.

rr13 ended up being the highest rank in the game and it took about 8 years i think for the first player to hit that then another couple of years for the next few players. Like someone mentioned though, coordinated groups of rr5-6 wasn't that far behind and could definitively win if they played well.

And for those that still claim ToA killed the game, have a look here...
    DAoC is the blue line.

this. the population just shifted in TOA. in SI it was 10% set groups 90% zerglings. after TOA it was 70% set groups 30% zerg (estimated values obviously) take an educated guess which era was more fun to play :P

Well, they have the Assault and Support lines already. Realm ranks just took a lot longer to gain and provided a broader, more powerful set of choices. I think that's good for giving people incentive to continually PvP, but it's also kinda bad if the bonuses you get with higher ranks are too powerful.

Realm ranks seemed to work for me because it took enough effort to gear out your character well that you'd likely find high RR players with crap gear, meaning a low RR player with great gear wasn't cannon fodder. Take a different example, like Warhammer Online, where being a high RR also gave you exclusive access to the by far the best gear, and there was no way to semi-balance the disparity between the two sets of players.

I wouldn't be opposed to them making the Assault and Support lines more expansive and harder to level, but I think it would have to be done very carefully. It should also wait until enough players hit the VRs that Cyrodiil campaigns are normally filled. It would be too difficult to gauge what kind of effect such a change would have before most players have even reached VR1.

this game does have the same thing with assault/support.

unfortunately these could have been a bit more planned out or requires changing/tweaking.

Keep it the way it is, i say. emperor is enough, I'd rather have population balancing, fighting for fun is enough, If its not fun to fight, then something is wrong.

Ya, which killed it because you lost all that "casual" income that investors like to see which caused them to lose developers and content screeched to a halt.

and 14 years after release the game is still going. it also got 4-5 more expansions after TOA. get ur facts right, son.

Listen little boy. I know how the game is. I just unsubscribed to it 2 days ago kiddo. When did you last play it???

With the amount of grinding in this game already, I wouldn't want to have to grind out "realm ranks" in order to compete in pvp. It's bad enough that you have to do pretty much ALL the other alliances quests already.

Grind makes it sound bad, it really wasn't, you were just PVPing like you do now. but you rewarded for doing it and you always got to keep making your character slightly better. There was a big list of stuff to choose from like HPs, crit, resists, stat increases and so on. You always wanted to hit the next rank so you always had something to aim for. Every night you always had the sense that you had improved or worked towards improving your character.

The opp made it sound like this was something you could achiev right away like how VEt 10 are now. This is not the case. These rank because very hard to achieve. 50% of the players never made it past Rank 5. It took about 2 years for the hard core players to get to the cap of rank 10. Then it was raised to rank 13. It took 7 years for the first player to hit it. He was a Firbolg Druid named JEEP.

I would really like a system like to this to be implemented to ESO and have a feeling it will. The best part and the reason people kept playing their characters for years was because you never hit that "I'm finished wall"

I think you mistaken me for someone else, kewljag. I said it took a couple years to get high rank for the average player, but it was a good thing I thought. u said it perfectly tho that it made you feel like you improved your char every night and that's what kept me going back, the pvp was fun but it was more fun knowing I was getting better the more I did it.

Also, please refrain from arguing over forums, it makes the thread look like it isn't being taken seriously and detracts from the main point and goal that I'm hoping I share with many other people who would be able to share their input on it whether they want the same thing or possibly even better ideas that could be achieved.

I just want this game to succeed, as I'm sure zenimax does as well.

The more people contribute to the effort of improving the pvp experience the more likely it might get addressed. Will it get addressed? I don't know, for all I know this thread will just be buried under people reposting new threads of things that have already been brought up though, but my hope is that it doesn't, and this can be a thread that grows with the foundation of ideas I've made but improved and or agreed upon.
