Stoneworking Profession + Player Housing

I hope the developers add "Stoneworking" as a future profession for ESO. This profession allows players to harvest stones for the purpose of creating stone houses. Stone nodes will be located throughout Tamriel, much like ore. Players will use a workbench to carve out stone blocks using a chisel and a hammer. Stone blocks are required to construct buildings. There are several different designs for stone houses that range from small cottages to large manor houses. Players will need to collect blueprints, which are extremely rare. The time it takes to create a house is daunting as the amount of materials is insane. The skill line for this profession could look something like this...

Stoneworking Skill Line (passives):
Stonemasonry (Rank I): Players can use Rubble
Stonemasonry (Rank II): Players can use Cobble
Stonemasonry (Rank III): Players can use Sandstone
Stonemasonry (Rank IV): Players can use Limestone
Stonemasonry Rank V): Players can use Slate
Stonemasonry (Rank VI): Players can use Granite
Stonemasonry (Rank VII): Players can use Marble

Construction (Rank I): Time required to create buildings is slightly reduced
Construction (Rank II): Time required to create buildings is moderately reduced

Quarrying (Rank I): Slightly increases the chance to extract more stone
Quarrying (Rank II): Moderately increases the chance to extract more stone

Architecture (Rank I): Players can use Cottage blueprints
Architecture (Rank II): Players can use Cabin blueprints
Architecture (Rank III): Players can use Farmhouse blueprints
Architecture (Rank IV): Players can use Longhouse blueprints
Architecture (Rank V): Players can use Plantation blueprints
Architecture (Rank VI): Players can use Manor House blueprints

Player housing can take the form of instanced neighborhoods, allowing for small communities to live and thrive. Players can purchase or sell houses on the open market by purchasing or selling the deed, respectively. This profession would be unique in ESO allowing players to create entire worlds within themselves. On top of that, the Woodworking Profession could be used to create various pieces of furniture, you know that lovely couch you've always wanted.

I would love to hear peoples thoughts about this idea?

yes , yes and yessss! I have always loved player housing and I would loooove to see player CREATED housing! i like the layout of ur skill tree there and its always good to see more threads on player housing

Lol, maybe style of houses?
But TBH I'd personally prefer one instanced location per city which player could buy and then place house on it, but with option to invite people and then house style would be based on city.

I like your idea, and I like the way you planned it out. I think that having instanced neighborhoods is an awesome idea, where you can invite friends and guildies to hang out and discuss.... whatever. I used to do that on my ship in SWTOR all the time.

It's also a nice incentive for people who don't PvP. Something to do while waiting for the next endgame content. I would also like to see an "Emperors Edition" of ESO cribs on youtube or something.

A different take: Maybe we could go siege an enemy guild's neighborhood. I for one, would love to catapult AD people while they're in their herb garden, or looking in the mirror, or whatever Altmer do for recreation. I would pay extra monthly to see that.

Yes to instanced parts of the city for player housing. They should be set up in a "neighbourhood" fashion, so that there would be a given amount of building slots available in an instance and that anyone could access any neighbourhood they wanted (preferably with the ability for break and entry )

I would find this annoying and pointless. Honestly, I never understood the purpose of 'housing' in MMOs. It would be a lot of skill points to dump into a skill line that has no actual benefit to the character what so ever. Owning a house won't help you fight better, survive the enemy, run faster, finish quests faster, or anything else of benefit. You would sink skill points into something that doesn't give you anything back.

If you could do this crafting and housemaking without a commitment of skill points, I'd be ok with it. But if you need to drop skill points in, that would be a waste.

Housing is very useful, you can store your items and trophies in there. That would already help this people who complain about bank and inventory space.

Here are my ideas to join with yours:

1. Villages could be bought by guilds, like 200k gold.
2. These would have a guild hall in the center of the village, and terrains for sale all around it.
3. Guilds would have the option to allow outsiders (people not from the guild) to purchase or not terrains in their village.
4. Static villages for those not in a guild.
5. Guilds would receive a share everytime a terrain is bought.
6. Entrances to these villages in every main city, when you enter a menu comes and asks in which village you wish to enter.

Just some ideas I've had now...

Maybe crafting containers at woodworking/clothing station with limited capacity each?
Like:
Woodworking:
Crate - 5 slots.
Barrel - 5slots.
Shelf - 5 slots.
Cupboard - 5slots.
Desk - 5 slots.
Trunk - 10 slots.
Wardrobe - 10 slots.
Chest - 15 slots.
Bookshelf - works exactly like normal bookshelf with random book each time you relog.
25maple/22oak/20beech/17hickory/15yew/10 lf any vr wood for 5 slot, double for 10 slot and triple for 15 slot.
Clothing:
Sack [small] - 3 slots.
Sack [big] - 5 slots.
Bag - 5 slots.
Backpack - 8 slots.
Heavy sack - 10 slots.
Same costs as for woodworking [but with fibers for sacks and hides for bag and backpack], 20/17/15/12/10 for 3 slot.

Play housing should combine all crafting professions and not just a new one. That doesn't mean however that stone working wont be a good idea

You could build a house with wood, stone or for the "animals" under us, with dirt.

Woodworking could also serve as making a door, a fence, maybe even a leatherworking workbench, having fire wood, boxes to store goods in our home ...

Tailoring could serve for making carpets, upgrade bag space (in a realistic way) like for our mounts, in combination with alchemy for making portraits (could also come from achievements after finishing a dungeon, or saving an artist who portraits you etc.)

Stoneworking as you said, could be used to create a food storage room, the house itself or a sculpture for your garden..

Blacksmithing could lead to having a own forge, which as addition also repairs your gear and could upgrade the level of it.


Lots of possibilities but housing is a must have and on high priority in my books

I think you underestimate housing.

Housing isn't only about have a house somewhere so you can look at it Housing is a whole Endgame idea that traditional MMO´s like SWG or Ultima Online had.

There housing gave you the possibility to open a shop (long before anyone thought about an AH).
But you also could store your items in a house, repair them, put trophy´s in.

SWG also had a tax and vote system, where you were a real member of a society with own tasks and rules.

While I understand that housing might not be the Endgame everyone would use, it has as raiding does a small faction of fans and since raiding is supported I don't see why housing shouldn't
It might even attract a lot new fans, look at Everquest Landmark there the whole game is about building a house and it has a huge fanbase already

You, guys, throw some good ideas with no ways of good implementation.
I see a few ways it can be implemented and IMO they are all bad:

1) Archage style - limited number of areas around the world where houses can be built. Problem of capacity (and generally a terrible and ugly implementation).
2) Certain house places in already existing towns where all players get phased into their own houses. Known problems of phasing.
3) Some instanced (like @Denzeli mentioned) location that you can teleport to from any point of world or through wayshrines. Problem of understanding and feeling of "teleport to nowhere that fenced with impassable walls (visible or invisible)" as you actually not bound to any real place of existing world. Public cities will be totally deserted.

There would be problems of tinkering with access to house and to stuff inside, base-*** by accidenaly invited strangers and all stuff that comes with state property.

If devs will implement that some day, I hope Elder Scrolls won't fall to Farm Frenzy level like WoW did. I not sure if we need that at all, though.

SWG had the best housing system I ever seen. Would be awesome if ESO would implement that. Also with your own vendors to sell stuff if you want too.
It was Always a nice thing to see other players creations and decorations. Sometimes they were at "home" and you could share a drink and some smalltalk if you wanted to

Also SWG had the best and most extensive crafting system ever.
God I miss that game....

THIS would be amazing! Loved being able to build my own house in Skyrim after Hearthfire was released. Really hope that the houses on ESO will be a bit more customizable though!
