Now, I got an idea of what "Spellcrafting" is but, in other games, one in particular Baldurs Gate 2, there was a spell that let you create your own spell but only could choose three things... Ive been told by some that morrowind or oblivion had the same thing... So..

What is spellcrafting going to be like in ESO? as all I use is spells and my staff.. So what is spellcrafting going to do? or what can we do with it? Any info would be appreciated because im slightly confused.

It could be used to add buffs like potion or so none casters can use powerful spells. By the way, it was morrowind and it produced some very interesting things ;) say no more.

Oblivion had some spell creation stuff too, though I think you had to download DLC (I had it on console, not PC) to be able to. With that you had a list of effects similiar to how you enchant in skyrim and you could add mukltiple together, increase power, etc.

Yeah but in morrowind you could effectively fly with spell craft, was awesome! Think they scaled it back in oblivion :)

Flight was a spell in Morrowind. Don't make it sound like spell crafting did that.
You can just look up the spell making systems with a google search for those games, but the general idea of it was this:
Put as many effects that exist in the game as you want into a spell: frost damage? Paralysis? Life drain? Do you want it to occur over time? If so how long? What will the range be on this spell? How large an area will it affect? Okay you're done, the spell you made will cost this much mana and require this level of skill to perform.

This system made sense in those games because spells were more generic. We may see a similar system here that gives us a new type of bread and butter spell for mages (akin I frostbolt/fireball/shadow bolt in wow). I am curious how they plan to have this interact with their current very structured, very specific spell set that is currently available.

I want to Raise the DEAD!!!!!!!!!! like Necromancy stuff

Daggerfall had complete spellcraft in the sense that you could, in theory, combine any existing game effects into one spell. I remember paralysis being a very effective ingredient to throw into your own spells.

So...Spellcraft... What is it really? Does this mean...spells you make, means MORE Abilities? Or? what? can someone be very very brief and specific

The spellcrafting in Morrowind and Oblivion were pretty differen't.
Morrowind allowed you to pick the scales of durations, AoE range, damge, etc while oblivion also did but it had limiters stopping you going OVERBOARD, but ofc that failed in many ways :p
real spells would make playing Sorc/mage more fun. i missed being a Frost/Fire/Frostfire mage. i miss being able to put paralyze and invisivility on target (oblivion anyways, always fun seeing them flop and vanish) but it was the creativity of it that was fun as well, in an MMO it COULD cause problems if someone finds a cheese build (Pryda using the cheese vamp build in Cyrodiil anyone?) and dominates everything in PvP and PvE
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

Uuugghh I want them to release more details about this already! I too miss the more classic sense of spellcasting from the single player games which is how they hinted at it, but with the way they do abilitiy/skills I'm not sure how they will slot it in and have it fit right, whether its complex real crafting like morrowwind/oblivion had or just more simplistic spells like skyrim.

It does seem really odd to me though that the skill line for the mages guild has so little that actually feels like a mage spell though. :D At least with the Sorc class between all 3 lines it feels at least closer to a full spell array, though still light IMO.

If it's anything compared to oblivion (I hope) you can basic build a spell out of chosen elements.

    Range
    Duration
    Aoe range/effect
    Damage

All of these cost a certain amount of mana but you can add all.

Let's say you could make a spell

    Fire ball
    Range 50 metres
    50 dmg
    Cost - 500 mana

    Or if you'd like

    Range 0
    500 dmg
    Cost 500 mana

This would add a huge ability to character builds. I'd love it

Would love to wield the spell like a tome in one hand and a blade in the other

create the tome and then you could enchant it and whatnot like an item. Guess this would need a new skill line though
