Molag'Bal and Siphoning (SPOILER)

Okay, this is a pretty big problem...

A reasonably difficult end-of-main-quest-line boss is taken from reasonably difficult... to the EASIEST BOSS IN THE ENTIRE GAME. By ONE type of spell.

A leeching spell. The reason for this is because your power is increased by a crazy amount so that you can actually deal damage to Molag. The problem is, is that our health stays the same.

What this means is that whenever you use a siphoning spell (especially as a Nightblade) you are practically unkillable. You regen half of your health in one tick of the Siphoning dot. This is unacceptable for a ending boss fight that is supposed to be epic and difficult. I didn't even have to look up any shortcuts for this, I found this out accidentally when I took siphoning as my normal choice of sustain...

This is ridiculous. This can't carry on as it takes away the feeling of really annoying a daedric prince... the scariest one too. I was extremely disappointed :(

So, how do we fix this?

It's quite a simple fix. All you need to do is make Molag's abilities more powerful and our health to scale with our abilities' strength. What this will do is make the siphon as powerful as it should be - enough to sustain but not enough to break the fight and still make it a challenge. To compensate for the extra amount of health gained, Molag will be stronger and deal more damage which will in turn end up the same damage taken as now.

All it takes is making the health as amplified as the damage we deal and Molag to be stronger as well as his minions, that's all we need to make a boss fight feel truly epic again!

Please leave your thoughts because this was a major bummer for me and I hope others can understand how fun it is to play a difficult boss. I hope there isn't another thread like this but I thought since I couldn't see one I'd post this.

Heh, I don't play this class, but this is interesting if true. They'll definitely have to fix it. Using the right tactics in this fight you really don't need it anyway.

Um. I play a NB, and I definitely do not regen half my health with one tick of the siphoning dot. Nowhere even near that. Do you have like three hp?

It's the same with sorc, with critical surge, every normal attack fill my life back to full.

However, I don't think it's as easy as you suggested, there are still a lot of move around involved and is a long battle. It may not be the hardest fight in the game, but definitely top 5.

Also, consider players are channeling divine power, it would not be appropriate if player is set to very weak.

Did you do the Molag fight? Your stats are increased by a lot, and because of this you heal a lot more because you deal more damage. I would say that once I got the Siphoning this was one of the easiest fights because it took no planning.

Here's a boss where you can use an ability and it actually does something and you want it changed??

Our definition of fun must be different because I'm weary, weary, weary of plinking away with white damage for 20 minutes while playing chess with the mob. THAT is boring.

So you're saying a bug that is easily exploited that ruins the fun for some of us by making the END OF MAIN STORYLINE fight completely faceroll is completely okay and shouldn't be changed?

    Yeah, okay.

    Yeah, okay.

It's not a bug. Your stats and abilities are adjusted for this fight, therefore the ability is working as designed. You can always NOT USE THE ABILITY if it ruins your fun.

It is a bug... I'm pretty sure that the developers did not intend for healing to be so easy. Otherwise, I'll be pretty disappointed. I can't believe you're actually sticking up for an exploit...

I suggest yout read a bit more on the elder scrolls story, the player is changeling a god, the story is more important here than the difficulty levels.

As long as it doesn't "ruin the fun" for most player, there is nothing wrong.

So you already did it and you felt it was too easy for you. Good... or, well... bad for you.
And now you want to make it harder... for all the others?
    Well, thank you very much.
    Now go away.

Sorcerer here. Didnt even need critical surge. Crystal shard, heavy resto staff attack. Crystal shard, heavy resto attack. Crystal shard, heavy resto staff. Just keep repeating until hes dead

Molag bal was a really bad joke. The build up to it as you climb the mountain, and see Molag Bal all huge and throwing enormous boulders at you from afar felt epic. Being able to btch slap his minions added to the submersion. Then you get to Molag Bal, and he is a chump push over.

    Lame.

Killed Molag'Bal by just looking in his general direction. He lost control of his bowels and keeled over deader than a doornail. Anyone who doesn't kill him in half a second is a milk-drinker.

    ... just so you know.

I would like to point out that not everyone is a mmo god/goddess. Most fight take me 5 to 10 deaths to figure out..but I do it. I don't use a healing staff, but apparently I need to because I have gotten my rear handed to me.

I am glad you found the fight so easy. You must be an mmo super play. But I would bet you are in the minority.

    And I don't drink milk

So basically you're saying you used this ability during the encounter and don't want anyone else to use this "exploit" the same way you did. Brilliant.

    ._.

That's exactly my point, TES games are more focused on building a virtual fantasy world, in which Akatosh is the primary god, if a player is channeling him, he cannot be a weak monkey. It would make no sense to fans.

This game provides enough changeling fights, no need to work up for a "final" boss fight, especially we all know its a MMO with NO end in sight.

That's the thing though, you would assume that Molag'Bal would be difficult to beat because he's a daedric prince if we were to put lore into your mouth, hmm?

And if that's the case, why is it much harder for people who are normal and don't have any sort of siphoning ability? Or is everything supposed to be down to Nightblade's standards?

I think you're missing my point here. This is an exploit because it makes the fight easy. For everyone else it's harder. You're defending an exploit. It's supposed to be harder yet you want it to remain one of the easiest fights for NBs. Mannimarco was tons harder than this, I do not suspect Zeni wanted this to be as easy as it is compared to Mannimarco.

EDIT: If we're talking about us being weak monkeys, I suppose defeating Mannimarco makes our characters a weak monkey? Surely Molag would be harder even with the power of Akatosh? Otherwise to the logical people this fight makes no sense? This game doesn't just concentrate on lore as much as I love the lore; It has to make logical sense in levels of difficulty.

I haven't done the fight yet as none of my characters are that high level (I'm a slow player and suffer from restartitis :# ) but as far as battling a Daedric Prince with the power of Akatosh goes...has anyone played Oblivion? Those who don't mind the spoilers, look here.

Also, this isn't the first time that the final boss fight isn't the toughest in a TES game, the same happens in Skyrim. Alduin is a joke (but great from a visual/lore standpoint), the dungeon you have to go through to get there is the real challenge. Perhaps similarly, Mannimarco is meant to be ESO's "true" boss fight prior to the end of the storyline.

I don't assume that at all, a fight between Akatosh and Molag Bal? You don't need to guess which side will win.

Every class has a self heal skill, or more (critical surge/inhale/funnel health), there is no reason why somebody cannot invest one point right before going into the fight.

btw, player defeat Mannimarco as a mortal, and fights Mr. Bal as a God.
