Why do you play ESO?

Thought I'd have a discussion about why did you play the game.

Personally, I didn't play it because it was an ES title. I played it because it looked very different to most MMOs. I've found my perfect traditional MMO (no matter how bad people say TSW is, I personally found it to be a masterpiece and it having the deepest buildcrafting since the original Guild Wars in a game, with amazing storytelling and a no-nonsense approach to dungeons), so stuff like Wildstar didn't really interest me.

ESO just seemed to have things MMORPGs have long lost and some things MMOs needed. A sense of adventure, your belonging in the world (not just your spot in a raid), combat which adds to immersion and not take away from it, and a plot which interests me.

Its Elder Scrolls .... nothing more, nothing less, i pride myself on playing EVERY one they have released.

When you have played more than Skyrim, you understand that it reflects alot of them, they have actually done well with this.

When i see people saying ......

"i am a massive Elder Scrolls fan .... i played Skyrim, this is not Elder Scrolls"
This annoys me because they clearly have no clue what Elder Scrolls is.

    What i like best ?

The areas that have never been seen actually being seen, some people have prayed to see these places, some have even dreamed.
    The graphics
    The races (Orsimer master race)
    The story is good
The Lore is mostly intacted and can be traced through to older titles.
    Racial gear is craftable

    What i hate ?

EU server location .... thats about it

In my opinion, Skyrim was actually a pretty bad ES game. My biggest gimp with it was how none of the NPCs had any personality and there was just no weight to anything.

C'mon, when you fought a dragon, did you feel threatened? Did you feel any tension when you fought Alduin? I sure didn't, I just steamrolled all over them.

Not saying ESO does it better (ZOS needs to realise that an 'invasion' is more than 5 enemies standing around being bored), but Skyrim was just so over-hyped.

That's what mods are for. If you ask me there hasn't been a decently characterised Bethesda game since Morrowind.

I don't have an answer to that question anymore. I'm convinced most of you would feel the same after completing the main quest. Hopefully things change in the future.

By the main quest do you mean the Molag Bal questline?

I'm not even particularly interested in that questline even now. Its just another 'you are the hero that'll save the world' kind of questline.

What I'm more interested in is the other quest lines which are much more down to Earth and with much more characterisation. My favorite quest line so far was the Maulborn quests, there's genuine twists in the plot, and it does keep you guessing a bit somewhat.

I play ESO because Im playing GW2 otherwise and Im a bit tired of the limited number of viable builds (viable in my opinion that is). Mostly pvp and got 5 lvl 80's there so I just wanted to try something new.

And I just love the Elder Scrolls series. Played them since the beginning.

I started playing ESO because I like TES lore, I wanted a new MMO and I prefer games with a somewhat naturalistic&fantasy approach (not cartoonish, not sci-fi).

I canceled my sub already because the story part is quite short while the MMO part is not good enough for my taste. I will see in half a year how much would be improved on that side, but for now I played ESO mostly as a solo game and I finished the solo part of it.

Pure open world rpg. That's about it. There isn't many other good open rpg nowadays. I actually can't think of any.

I can't afford time commitment required by mmo, so it's not something I am focusing on.

I agree, I absolutely immersed myself in the Ebonheart Pact leveling 100%. I listened to all conversations, enjoyed the quests etc..

    But,

    [Spoilers]

when you finish that main quest line and start another factions questing as some nobody, and you are treated as a soulless, when in fact the entire main story line was about you regaining your soul, it takes away any chance of immersion and the quests are just plain boring to play any other way. The final quest, Meridia tells she can see the spark behind your eyes, after having received my soul back, and then a few quests into the next faction, some npc tells me you look like a dead soulless and would be perfect for this mission. wtf. Super lazy is what veteran content is. I'd much rather roll an alt and level him in a separate faction and be able to do the dungeons straight after level 50, instead of having to grind *** for 10 veteran levels to get gear to do the harder dungeons.

I play it, first, for the excellent combat system. Fights are challenging and satisfying. I like the mechanics on boss fights. Nothing is routine. The beautiful graphics and scenery are a close second.
