Want to like this game

joshuaingo
I really want to like this game. My brother and friends play it quite a bit and enjoy it. I don't get to play as much as they do so of course they got substantially far ahead of me. This would be no problem in most games as they could just help me quest when I have time to be on. Of course this is not possible in this game and it truly ruins the experience for me. I can't solo any of the content without getting smashed over and over. I love how people comment things like, "it's an mmo god forbid you have to group" when it is obvious that group questing is broken in many regards. So I am stuck not being able to my friends and unable to solo. I really want to keep playing but don't know how to progress. If anyone has been in a similar situation can you give me some advice?

I didnt find it hard to do questing on my own. In fact I didnt had to use a single hp/stamina/mana potion from 1-50. And most of the time there were always someone around doing the same quest like me.

Perhaps I just have bad luck I don't know but it is nearly impossible for me to complete quests even when I am up a level on many of the monsters.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to go do another quest somewhere else and then come back to it. Also, I fould myslef in the same situation early on with my first toon. I'd suggest paying attention to why you are dying. Are you running out of stamina to fast? Mana? Are you a glass cannon?

Once you know what your short coming are you can begin allocating future skill point accordingly. My first toon was a Nightblade under Ebonheart. I was having fun, but i found myself dying alot. I eventually got starting wearing heavy armor and unlocked the syphon ability around lvl 12 and things started to turn around.

I also have a Sorc. I ended up getting stuck in a boss battle that I could not beat. It was so bad that I had to delete my character and make another. This time around I had an idea of the abilities I wanted and faired a lot better.

Long story short just pay attention to you playstyle and build your toon accordingly. Also use every tool available to you. Potions, Ultimates, Enchantments...etc.

The games PVE combat has a small learning curve due in part to its methodical nature. At first glance it doesn't seem that complicated but as you dig deeper you;ll see that it actually is.

Check your gear , use some buffs , get potions . Also check your journal to see what level the quests are and make sure your gears are repaired . Also when leveling , use greens and not blues . If the quests are hard go do an easier quest till you outlevel the quest you were having trouble with and come back as a higher level .

Agreed completely Adernath. Some folks aren't clear in stating what their exact disquiet with the solo part of questing is. Very often, not sure if this applies to op here or not, very often what they mean is not 'they cannot effectively solo or go back having changed up skills or added potions or made another level and returned" to then successfully attend to the baddie at hand.

Often what they really mean is, their friends cannot "help" them make up four or five levels difference ' QUICKLY' so they can catch back up and play on level with their friends on Saturday afternoon or etc.

That is commonplace in other mmo's. It is not in Tamriel as we know it. For some that is frustrating. For others, very refreshing.

I have no illusion of catching my friends they are level 35 plus while I am at level 8. I do not want anything handed to me. However, my friends enjoy playing quests with me even if I am far behind. I am not wanting power leveled or anything of that manner. To imply that everyone that wants to play with their friends is just wanting an easy way out is silly. Like you guys say it is an MMO I should be able to play with my friends. In the state of the game right now I cannot that is my issue.

Hey Joshuaingo - I specifically stated I wasn't sure if the o-p had that in mind. I mention it because my friends older teen who plays was fussing about that exact thing this week. Working part time he has found himself at a lower level than three of his friends and is frustrated. His dad is all about 'Well you need to earn it and not be pl'd twice a month just to keep up with your buddies'. I understand however that his son's preferred playstyle includes different needs, heh.

There IS a difference from being pl'd and rather, wanting to make four or five levels quickly for one particular reason. *Noted. Best wishes on finding a few more valuable skills or some other mechanic which gives you enough of an oomph to feel like you are able to handle the at-level quests more comfortably.

Im having no problem doing quests that are 3-4 or even 5 levels above me and Im only lvl 16 atm. Just have to dodge and kite a bit. And have ok gear. I always solo in pve in mmo's.

(Ive hade some problems finding that nice constant flow of quests though. Levelling is a bit slow tbh.)

Sadly the only mmo that comes to mind that would allow you to play with yuor higher level friends is GW2 seeing how the maps them self adjust your level. Even games such as WoW,Everquest 2 (they USE to have a lvl drop system but removed it when it went free to play) and any other mmo i have played would put you in the same spot. What they could do is make new characters to level when your around and then continue to play their others when your not. But sadly other then that they will not be able to play with you untill you hit 50. af far as doing quest go, explore and 100% the maps before leaving them. When i left auridon i was lvl 22 that's 5 levels above the first quests you get in grahtwood. Use food or drink to boost your stats and make sure your weapons are up to par with your level, same with armor. If your finding certin mobs tough use a bow to get some dmg in before they get to you then change to melee (this is once your lvl 15 and have weapon swap of corse)

City of Heroes was super-great at teaming up. Instances scaled with party size, so a player doing an instance solo faced a fair fight, while a team with more individuals fought larger mobs with higher leveled NPCs thrown in. In addition, low level characters got a buff to make them around 2 levels lower than their higher ranked "mentor", while higher level characters got de-buffed so they were only counted as around 2 levels higher than low-level friends they were mentored to, the buff/de-buff depending on the active quest which was being done.

Not saying this level of detail could be applied here, but in truth this was the very best team-up mechanic I have ever encountered in any of the online games I have ever played.

Try a sorcerer with destruction staff. This is the only advice I can offer as someone who has tried both a melee character and a caster type. Destruction staff Sorc or Templar is basically like easy mode.

They both have really strong starting class skills and it's a well known fact that destruction staff is just better than any other weapon choice right now.

Also, apologies if this is obvious or has been mentioned, but it wasn't obvious to me at first. Don't just stack mana as you level, put a good number of points into health as well.. even as a caster. I made the mistake thinking I was going to be healer primary / caster secondary.. so would need alot of mana.. a deep health pool not so important because, hey, I can just heal myself!
but quickly found myself dying alot to tougher mobs at the end of quest chains and any multi-mob pulls (especially ones with a mix of range and melee). either incoming damage was just to heavy to deal with or would keep me on defense so much that I couldn't dish anything out. Just starting to put more ponts in health quickly made my life so much easier. Unfortuantely you can't 'respec' your ability point decisions while leveling (AFIAK) so you can't fix that mistake without somehow managing to power through the immediate difficulty and get some levels. As others have said, only thing you can do in the meantime is look for a different/easier quest to do and come back to the one you're blocked on.. get food/drink buffs, pots, better gear, better tactics, etc. etc. ..

There are shrines in Tree Root (the Grahtwood zone, Capital City) which allow you to respec your skill points and your attribute points. They have a hefty price tag, but you can respec if you need to.
