Resurrecting

I like the current system but it has some flaws. I'm not sure whether these problems are by design or whether they're oversights, but I'd like to post some of my observations and get feedback from the community

1. No way to finish a downed player. I think there ought to be a finishing mechanic that's only usable out of combat. It wouldn't affect in-combat resurrections but it would allow the winning side to completely clear an area of enemy combatants. A single invisible player starting a resurrection chain as soon as your group leaves or some dead dude lying on the ground relaying your group's movements without a counter is kind of dumb.

2. Decrease resurrection window to 1-2 minutes. Again, kind of dumb that players can AFK and leech AP/exp while they're dead, wait up to 10 minutes for someone to drop a forward camp so they don't have to run, etc.

3. Grand Soul Gems should be purchasable with AP. AvA doesn't provide enough gold to cover 121g per gem and the gold-only method just encourages boss camping if you're looking to fill up on Soul Gems

4. Add (un)filled Grand Soul Gems to PvP mail rewards

5. Add a Resurrect 20 Players daily PvP quest

edit: 6. Introduce a PvP-only Soul Gem. Can't be used in PvE world, sells for 0, purchasable with AP or gold

I don't think there are any issues. You can get Grand Soul Gems in the VR areas at a pretty steady pace. I do think adding a chance of unfilled gems to PvP rewards would be nice but isn't a major issue.

Finishing Mechanic would prevent hard rez? I think that's what you are getting at... I don't think this is an issue.

Kinda, not now that they added the "Anti-Loot-timer" to combat bots.

There is a slight hiccup in soulgems.

It's not too bad for VR-level players, but for sub-50 their options are 1) buy Soul Gems, 2) farm bosses (with new timer, like awkwarrd pointed out), or 3) not contribute to the resurrection effort.

There just isn't really an incentive to resurrect other players as a solo player. It's selfish but from the average player's standpoint, and depending on the campaign, you're losing out by resurrecting your allies. You lose the Soul Gem, you potentially lose out on AP and experience gains as the rest of your force moves on while you're resurrecting the dead, and in return you get 20-30~ AP/experience per resurrection.

This isn't really an issue with coordinated groups, obviously. But I'd wager the majority of players are in /zone looking for group, coordination is minimal, and the relatively altruistic act of resurrecting players in your alliance is costly and not worth the payoff.

As a level 20, I can say that the first time I played with a group I was surprised at how effectively (and often) they used resurrections. I immediately went out and bought grand soul gems, spending about 100G.

Since I never find them in loot, though, it becomes a question of when do I use them? If I'm part of a group I do, but on my own I've only resurrected someone once because I have no connection to anyone else (the one I resurrected was because someone was humping his dead body and starting to res over and over again)

I like the ideas above, having a PvP only soul gem that can be purchased with alliance points would be great. Similarly, I bought a bunch of ballista and oil for PvP and that has been cluttering up my inventory... I'll never buy in bulk again. It would be great if PvP only gear didn't take up room.

Nice post and I agree. I do feel there are some tweaks that need to be made but I'd rather then focus on other obvious and major issues.
