Might of the Guild Mechanics

The final passive in the Mage's Guild line, Might of the Guild, purports to increase the spell power of the next attack. I did some testing on it today and found the following:

- If you cast Fire Rune, the rune itself will consume the buff (and get the damage bonus) unless you quickly cast another spell before the rune goes off.
- If you consume the buff on a skill which does damage and a DoT (I tested with Unstable Flame and Scalding Rune), the direct damage gets the spell power buff but the DoT does NOT.

Given the above, I am highly disappointed with how this passive works. I wish that at a minimum it would be changed so that DoT skills would get the bonus for their entire effect.

Actually... the information about the fire rune is very useful, it makes fire rune a decent option now.

Do you know if Meteor procs the effect?

I have been doing some tests, and Might of the Guild does not do as much damage as reported.

It claims to do 10% increased damage at level 1.

At V6, my normal crit with Crystal Shard ALWAYS does 809 damage against a V2 Kagouti as shown here.

I wanted to test to see how much damage I was really getting from Might of the Guild, by dropping a Volcanic Rune, then tossing another Crystal Shard.

I did not get a 10% increase as the tooltip decribes. I only got 5%, as shown here.

I'm not sure if this is a bug with Might of the guild not doing as much damage as it should, or a 'phrasing' issue with the tooltip. It would be nice if Zenimax would fix whichever one is causing the misunderstanding.

It's another awful tooltip. It doesn't increase your damage, it increases your spell power, which is only one modifier of the damage a spell does.

Spell power is based off of magika right? And not shown on the CS.

I posted this in a thread about spell damage/spell power and felt the "spell power based off magicka" question you had was definitely relevant. See the part of my reply that begins with raising magicka...

"I think the spell damage stat goes up each level until VR and the only other ways to raise it are + spell power jewelry, + spell power potions, and buffs (skills) that raise the stat and possibly some passives.

Raising magicka does not raise the spell damage (spell power) stat, but it does cause your magicka based skills to do more damage. Does that make sense?

Here are some links I found that might explain it further:

This is correct on both statements.

The only thing I would change is the second statement to: "Raising magicka does not raise the spell damage stat, but it does cause your magicka based skills to do more damage (spell power)".

From what I see spell power is the amount of damage a spell does, and is based off of many stats... I.E. magicka, spell damage, crit damage(not to be confused with crit chance), etc....

Not sure what they changed recently, but now I'm getting a 0% increase.

same here. I tested on healing spells and didn't see any improvement at all. I don't know if it's a bug or not
