Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

As far as I get the game you are (in theory) supposed to make a PvE Tank by using 1 Handed+Shield+Heavy armor.
Shield has the taunt and cheaper blocking. Heavy armor has life reg, less damage, cheaper blocking and more healing received.

But in practice that will often result in you hitting the armor cap with passives alone. Plus taunting, blocking, dodging and interrupting (all stamina intensive) actually make a large part of the whole Tanking role.
So I keept wondering since beta: Is a medium armored PvE tank with classbuff on armor possible? Would it be feasible and usefull?

I am askign in particular because my Kajiit Nightblade DPS never finds any tanks. And if I al lI need is a respec with some focus on 1H+Shield, this would be ideal.

Scorc's could do it quite well by stacking crit applying critical surge for health and ruining either dual or 1h shield, it something I'm going too look into after my second toon is done lvling

I have not seen any class or armor ability that would be superior to the passive mitigation of heavy armor. It would be too resource intensive.

Tanking in ESO is a job. MMO tanking is usually a no-brainer, but in this game, it's practically an art form.

Well i agree and disagree. it comes down to magica really DK's can absloutely Tank in light armor. they have a 20 second armor buff that brings them right to cap. And in all honesty As a DK ive tanked every single VR 4man dungeon in leather. What is lost in heavy is huge comapre to what is gained in light as per the magica vs health regen ratio of heavy.
Heavy armor soft cap is reached extremely easy as is health recovery and regen.
Most of the mitigation is coming from active blocking in SNS. Ive not tried tanking in light but i assume with the plentiful amounts of magica and keeping my spiked armor buff up my healer would probably never notice. what is gained is extreme amounts of magica . when pulling trash its crucial to be able to keep CC ing which is all coming out of magica.
Stamina builds are absoloutely a joke compared to magica Light builds when it comes to performance.Right now Heavy and medium dont perform anywhere near the way light does.As for tanking being hard i disagree its byfar one of the easier games ever with their soft aggro managment . and no GCD . early EQ 2 by far was an art form AOC an art form. here its pretty easy.

Tanking for scorc's dose require skill however once you have it down packed you should have no problems. Also can be completely done In light amour with a heavy magic build.

In short, no. Leather is severely under powered compared to the other two types and not worth using in any build. DPS use light, tank use 5 plate 2 light.

Ive since rolled a sorc he is VR 6 and vastly superior to my V12 Dk in heavy armor. My light armor sorc out performs my DK tank in every possible fashion in light armor. there is zero difference in mitigation between the two.

Was looking for threads like this a while ago just to see if it would be possible, but found zero "guides" and decided to try it out anyways. I play a Medium armoured (7/7) NB and I have succesfully tanked most veteran dungeons. My armour could get many improvements along with jewellery so it could get even better.

Can't post full build right now, but "usually" the boss fights mainbar has Ransack, Swallow Soul, Leeching Strikes, Mirrage, Elude.
Mirrage and ellude are a must for medium armour tanking, since it gives you a passive 37% chance to avoid any spell/hit without doing anything. Mirrage also has a chance to set targets that miss on you off-ballance, which helps with adds. You could also take Double Take instead of mirrage, to make it a more of a panic button since it gives you an extra 15% avoidance for 4 seconds, taking you to 52%.

You could also swap Leeching Strikes for Dark Cloak, since it removes 4 dots, and gives you a 4 sec with a gazillion of armour and spell resistance (Shadow Barrier passive), and since it is shadow skill you get extra health from the trait Fortitude.

I take Veil of Blades for ult, for obvious reasons, but I'm thinking of trying swaping it with Soul Harvest and taking the set that heals you when using an ultimate, which could boost self healing even more.

Mixed armor builds are usually more usefull. (But one type should be not less then 5 pieses to get main armor type bonus).
    For exampl my chars
    khajit NB (duals\bow DD) = hvy torso+ light belt + 5med
    orsimer Sorc (2H\bow DD) = hvy torso+ 6med
    breton Tmpl (rest\destr healer\DD) = hvy torso+ 6light
    argonian DK (OHSH tank) = light belt+arms + 5hvy
