AoE

In my opinion it is far far too powerful.
In most cases if you have it, there is no point using the harder to aim single target spells as they do roughly the same damage anyway.

If you toned down this little thing by 75% in large groups you could still co-ordinate it some what just not the instant death spam of a single button it is now while making AIMING your single target spells worth while to take down specific targets.

PVP is a joke so long as this sort of stuff and others is in.
Don't go telling me it would affect PVE too much it is as bad there too.

So, you're asking for a 3/4 nerf of AoE damage?? ROFL! Sorry, not gonna happen. Although I do think it needs to be addressed, but a 75% damage reduction in AoE is just insane to ask for.

I think the argument you put up isn't valid without more details.

Your level in PVP and the resistances you have.
General statements thrown around without any information to prove it will just make you look foolish.

    Something. Anything.
I've played almost every mmo that has come out in the past 9 years(all expect WAR i think) and none of them had this fetish of aoe as strong as single target attacks and that spamable...

It promotes REALLY bad game play.. in the beta I never saw it so much due to most of these AOE being high level stuff (bat swarm 5th destro staff skill) but man... its a joke.
I like a more skillful play and I thought that being mouse targeted it would be harder to take people down properly especially in group fights, you could even have friendlies trying to soak the damage for you and stuff.
    NOPE SORRY AOE SPAM.

VR2 atm dude and I am a NB my resistances go to soft cap when I am getting focused and use the shadow passive.

You didn't play SWG then. TONS of AoE damage in that game....sometimes far more powerful than any single target attack. You adapt and overcome.

My current adapting is avoiding when i can.
You have to agree with me that in a game where you have to aim your attacks, putting in such skilless spammy aoe attack are contary to the basic mechanics of the game???

In beta when these were not avaliable you would get stand offs that would last ages huge and brilliant fights!
Now on live i only see people running into eachothers zergs heedless of any danger spamming their aoe untill one side is left standing.. If the fight lasts more than 30 sec it is a miracle.....
    And that is bad pvp.

It's not contrary to the basic game mechanics, because the basic game mechanics support AoE damage. I think if it was toned down by like 15-25%, then a good balance could be reached. But, this would need to be tested. And, as of right now and as far as I know, there is no PTS for this game. There's no need for such a knee jerk reaction with your 75% reduction in AoE damage.

75% is a number, it could be anything as long as it works.
Another idea would be keep the damage but spread it over 5 sec for example to support the targeted attacks.

I haven't run into this that much in pvp, even though I know it exists. I generally won't bunch up with others trying to squeeze through a keep door or something like that. I try to hang back a lil and use my ranged attacks. Being sort of a support DPS player, when those bottleneck situations popup. Never a good idea to just zerge into a confined area and hope everything will be alright.

Well on auriels bow eu it is common practice.... Also because its so effective its a simple matter of time before its used by all.

AoE should do half the damage of single-target skills in the best case and should be more difficult to use (cast timers, higher skill cost, etc)

especially in such PvP built around zerg, the current power ratio of AoE to single-target is ridiculous

you cant take any objectives without a considerable number of people as you need someone to operate siege engines to break the walls and someone to cover and heal those sieging

so idk why i didnt discard your post as a cheap troll post from the moment when i've wasted 3 seconds of my life to read it.

It takes like 4 VRs to take a fort. That's not a considerable force, lol. Second, aoe doesn't do the same amount of damage as single target. Most AoE (not all) is spread out as DoT as well - and spamming the DoT ones erases the effect. In those cases, you can use an equal number of skills as there are ticks in that AoE, and usually each skill hits as hard ad the entire AoEs duration.

AoE is particularly dangerous when groups of people coordinate it, and stack the effects - hence my don't zerg comment. I've rarely seen AoE in small group pvp, unless its vampire AoE. If you mean PvE that's a different argument altogether.

    No....Just no....

If you want to zerg around with a Massive Zerg Ball, you get head back on over to GW2....

You don't wanna die to AoE, don't stack ontop of one another like morons....GW2 spoiled bad players with its crappy mechanics

yeh, sounds fun, breaking walls with 4 people, might as well watch a 2 hour movie together while taking 1 keep

I avoid zergs but even in smaller scale aoe spam had been a problem.

AoE is really too powerfull, but its zerg vs zerg with some healers in best case, with AoE heals. Maybe AoE should cost lot more magicka? I dont know.

Wait... did you just call playing a thief in GW2 skilled? As someone with a Thief, with Videos of playing a Thief... I can tell you, it didn't require a large amount of skill.

In fact it ranked up there as pretty much one of the least skilled required classes behind Warrior.
