Templar tanking help

lameware_ESO
To begin, I am a level 14 Khajiit Templar, using mostly abilities from the Aedric Spear tree.

Just about every tanking guide I read for this game talks about one of a tanks most useful roles on trash is using Dark Talons for CC. However, most of these guides seem to be geared towards DK tanks.

As a Templar, I don't really see anything in the way of AoE CC. Dawn's Wrath has Nova, but that's an Ultimate and can't be used every pull. Sun Fire only snares (not even a stun) one target (3 if morphed), which is kind of a laugh in groups of 6-7 enemies.

So when I tanked my first instance, Banished Cells, trash was a mess. I understand it's not meant to be 100% controlled, but I couldn't do anything at all to stop the enemies from running everywhere. At least, nothing like DKs or Nightblades (Lotus Fan) are capable of.

Is there some available Templar ability that I'm not reading correctly, or do we just not have the controling means that others do?

In my experience of gaming, if you wanna tank outside the usual tank classes, make agro, tons of agro, and templars should be able to do that, you have heals = agro generator + aoe
Didnt get very far on my templar in beta so dont quote me, but if i would make a templar tank its how i would do it.
Actually planning on making healtank so i can run dungeons with 3 dps instead of the usual trinity.

I was unaware that a Templar was outside the usual tanking class. I guess I was under the impression that both Dragon Knights and Templars were considered "usual." I guess I'm sorely disappointed now.

Templars are heal class, dragon knight is tank.
But who cares, im leveling a nightblade healer and constantly get remarks that im nightblade and listed as healer.
This game is perfect to make out of the box characters.

I strongly disagree. In this game classes are not bound to roles. Instead, the weapon type and armour type you select determines your optimal role.

To OP: Here's a guide I wrote about Templar tanking.

I am Vr3 enjoying my Templar tank a lot. Combat against groups of mobs Generally goes like this.

1: Shield assault the front mob of the pack
2: Hold block cast solar Barrage
    3: 2x Biting Jabs
    4: fire Ultimate crescent sweep.
if this doesn't kill the entire pack follow with either another solar barrage or if they are tightly packed in front of you another biting jabs.

Since the Templar doesn't have OP CC like the DK you have to play a far more active role when running with a group especially in a dungeon. Use shield assault to bounce around between mobs that break from your AE pack and go after your softer group members.

In the case of tanking a boss and going toe to toe. I will drop lingering ritual for immovable and shield assault for repentance.

My bar generally consists of Puncture, shield assault, Biting Jabs, Solar barrage, Lingering ritual, and crescent sweep. This is my normal farming, Delve, questing set up.

I typically run this set up on trash in dungeons and when doing bosses switch out to what ever is needed utility / tanking wise. From my experience and the experience of the players that I've ran with they seem to think I am a good tank and do my job well.

Being a tank in ESO is a little more work than other MMOs because of how agro mechanics seem to work. You have to be extremely active at picking up targets. A few guild members call me a pin ball tank as I bounce all over the room with shield assault peeling mobs off people with puncture and assaulting to the next mob. This also keeps the mobs running around chasing me and hitting no one else.
