How about it? Is it possible?
One in game Murder over a period of time in PVE areas, say once a day, would add some needed consequence for trolling, scamming, and other forms of griefing. Turn it into a power, such as an ultimate ability with a super long cool down time. It should be something every player has access to by default. Make it an ability that has to be slotted and removed.
The targeted player should be able to fight back of course, but still, other players able to strike down particularly nasty chat trolls, scammers, bots, and griefers would improve the game on the whole.
Getting killed once could be a minor annoyance. No big deal, but if ten or fifteen players are using their one a day attack on you it could serve to help curb disruptive behavior and would clue some players in that their actions aren't being taken well by others in the game.
Note that I didn't say cure, but curb. It's not going to solve a lot of issues, but it'll help a little and provide an outlet for frustration and make the game's social environment a little better.
A group of willing players could easily disrupt bot activities for example. Many would be more than happy to waste a bot and inform others who might be willing to use a one a day murder power to help keep Tamriel a less friendly place for them.
It could also help disrupt campers such as those who farm Vampires and WW to prevent others from gaining the curses.
Also to provide a method to keep players from rushing in and killing bosses that shouldn't be killed before they summon and blocking progress in certain quests for everyone else in the zone because they were too stupid to read the quest instructions or figure out that the group standing near by to a spawn isn't attacking right away for a reason.
I do think it should be an extremely limited implementation. Make it too easy to do and it becomes a tool for griefing. Not being able to kill the same person more than once in a week, and an extremely long cooldown between kills to help keep it from being abused. I'm not suggesting that the PvE zones suddenly become PvP. I doubt most players would use their daily kill every day to be honest, but it would be nice to have and a useful social tool.
It's a simple way for players to mitigate amongst themselves and handle some minor issues for themselves.
Another cool addition in the same vein would be player contracts with DB members able to take the contracts and eliminate other players for gold. Possibly requiring the use of a special shrine to perform the dark ritual and maybe give a small but long lasting temporary debuff by using it.
This should be limited of course. Again, I wouldn't want to see PvE become a full PvP arena.
It should be expensive for starters, at least three figures minimum but with no upper limit, and also have a time limit between contracts. Say two a day per DB member.
DB members could use a bounty board system that displays a targeted player's name, class, and level, as well as the price on their head. Maybe with a marker appearing showing their location when within a certain range. Possibly with a damage bonus against said player due to the contract.
Targeted players should be able to defend themselves as well.
Also, DB members should not be able to take their own contracts. Don't bar them from putting contracts out, but someone else in the DB has to do the deed and gets the payment.
It would do a lot to make joining the DB more fun and provide a use for it with players who don't want to do that quest line themselves.
So what do the rest of the forums think of this? Good ideas or not?
