Game brightness sucks

Hello,

Anyone else having troubles with the game brightness? I'm playing Elder Scrolls Online for a while now and I got this issue lately. My screen is so dark, if I'm doing a quest which I have to go in a house or some place dark and kill someone I just can't see a thing. I tried everything, the in-game brightness, my screens brightness, settings on my computer. I'm sure it isn't the screen, so it has to be settings in the game. But nothing I try works. Anyone knows a solution?

You can change the gamma in the video settings, this should help you.(if you tried this and thats what you meant by in game brightness I am sorry for mentioning it) You could also check your graphics driver to make sure it is up to date and the software that comes with those may help you as well to brighten it up. Also you may not want it too bright when you phase to a new part of a quest or you may go blind ;-)

I think OP does indeed talk about Gamma.

A faulty gamma setting will push the brightest *and* the darkest colors in the spectrum further towards 100% black or 100% white and changes your overall visibility. An ideal Gamma setting for most LCD/LED screens is 2.2. If I were you, I'd go for a simple calibration website (like http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/) and fiddle with your standard monitor settings (ie on the monitor itself), not in the game or in your OS.

After you have found the perfect Gamma setting, you can start tweaking brightness and color settings to your liking. Only the most extreme brightness settings will now make things too dark or too light and should happen across the entire picture, not just darker or lighter areas.

Thanks for your comments. I played a bit with the gamma settings. It's a little bit better now but when I'm in a house is just can't see much. Especially at night. Here is a screenshot from what I see when I'm in a house. Is this just how it is or...?

Also, when I try to change the gamma settings in the game the brigthness or colors won't get any higher or lower.

I have the same identicle problem, down in the hold of a ship, in dungeons, or in house's or manors I have to "feel" my way around. I have tried tweaking everything... I guess I will have to wait for my PS4 version to arrive!

If not done yet, you might want to check display drivers colour-settings. for nVidia, its under nvidia control panel, desktop color settings, and there should be two options, application control or nVidia settings. Been using the latter myself.

For AMD (dont have AMD rig at hand now, so trying to recall this..), its under control center, desktop color, and there should be a button to re-enable AMD control for color settings. used it sometimes with various colour problems (long ago).

Gamma setting in game will not do too much if you don't have gamma correction active on your GPU settings and gamma is set wrong in CCC or Nv Control Panel.

As a rule of thumb: always follow this order when tweaking settings:
Hardware > Driver Settings > In-Game Settings.

So first, check your monitor brightness and contrast settings, but I reckon that is nothing out of the ordinary (this doesn't look like such an issue).

The next step for you is checking CCC (AMD/ATI) or Nvidia Controls. There you should find a slider (under 'Color Settings' or something alike) for Gamma. Using that slider, go through the test pages on the site I linked you. Alternatively, Windows has a built-in calibration tool (but that is a sad story really).

Part of your problem is probably gamma. Play around with it and see if you get better results. You can do this while playing the game to see instantly how it looks. The other part of the problem I think, is that you don't have any shaders active, your graphics settings are low, so your light sources don't reflect on surfaces causing your image to lack contrast and distinct edges. This also is part of the problem judging by your screenshot. You can only fix this a little bit by turning up the brightness to a level where black is getting close to the darkest shades of grey - even though that is a horrible sight.

Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it! I thought of that too, I can't put my graphic quality any higher so I have to deal with it than. I'll try to get it any better with the tips you gave me. Thanks for the help! @Sandhya
