"Crossing the Chasm". Looking for advice.

I first picked up this quest at level 39. Since then I have been trying to complete it. I talk to Caldwell, make it past the Winged Twilights, and activate the two flywheels by pulling the levers. Once I work towards the third chamber I can’t get past that point. I have tried countless times but can’t get any further without getting killed.
Is there a trick to this quest? Is this something that needs to be done with a group? As it is now there is no way I can kill these bosses.
