Are Hirelings the only way to get tempers?

That's the only way I've obtained them so far. Can anyone confirm that they drop or are obtainable in any other way?

Thanks.

You also get them rarely from refining raw materials and also deconstructing items of the same rarity as the temper.

There's a skill line in the crafting trees that increase the chance to extract materials from deconstructing, I'd think it affects that. And I wouldn't really say "rarely" about getting them from deconstructing either.

there are a few ways to get tempers and hirelings are possibly the worst.
    1)refining raw cloth or pelts
2)deconstructing magic or better items (green, blue, etc)
    3)hirelings

the 1st two you have some control over. make sure you always upgrade the passive skill line called Unraveling (i think) that increases your odds of getting item improvement drops. By the time you hit 28 you will be getting the odd purple improvement token just refing your jute! early on, you will get the lions share of green tokens, though, by deconstructing all the green items you loot while adventuring.

Ah, I think I * have * seen them from deconstructing! now that I think more on it. Thanks!

Well, getting the blue and purple tempers is rare. But you are right, putting points in the skill that increases chances of getting materials from deconstructing and refining makes them fairly common.

Yes but what about the Legendary (gold) tempers.. do a lot of "junk" legendary items drop late in the game ? Or can you find them by refining ebony, or ? The green and blue tempers are common enough, but so far I have just 1 legendary and 2 purples from my hirelings

It appears, Legendary tempers can only be gained from hireling, as legendary items do not drop in game, the best is 'purple' gear. Legendary gear is only from 'upgrading' via crafting.

Breaking down tons of purple items, I have never got a Legendary temper, even with a max out skill line. This would explain why so many players have 7 alts who only have skill points used in hirelings

7 alts with skill points only in Hirelings? Are the alts all high level? Isn't the likelihood of getting a higher quality temper related in any way to the skill level of the character?

You would THINK it should be, but as its mail, and you can collect the mail on any toon you have, you can open it on your max crafting toon anyway. But even so, I have opened it on my L10 alt and still got a legendary (and he only had 1 skill hireling not a 3 skill point)

It appears Hirelings in general seem to send you stuff that is leveled just at or slightly above the highest level of that skill across *all* of your characters. So as long as you have one toon on that account which is higher 'crafting' level, you will get higher level stuff.

I can see them nerfing/fixing this soon. They already made the attachments non trade (the unopened containers) so you can't have multi accounts and transfer them.
