Is there a penalty for doing quests higher than your lvl?

Is there a penalty for doing quests higher than your current lvl? (by higher I mean by two to 3 lvls)

Often times when I do quests above my current lvl I only get 50-80 gold but quests that I am meant for seem to give me 400 gold often times. If there is a penalty then why is it there? If there isn't then I'm just getting really unlucky with the quests I turn in then

I've noticed this as well. It also affects exp if quest is 4 lvls higher

That's the case in most MMOs. At 5 levels too high, you get nothing.
I don't know how it scales.

I've noticed some quests offer around 50g, though I never really questioned it... my honey pointed it out to me, but I dismissed it... makes sense now...

BTW, that's not really the case in all MMOs. From what I've seen only XP si nerfed till you get none, but you get gold in return. So you actually get more gold the bigger the level gap. It seems very silly to nerf both.

I went from level 15 to 19 yesterday doing quests that were up to 23. Some were very hard and payed well. Some were easy with no combat that didn't. One was 8 levels above me and I got some helmet like tellacar or some such thing. I see an advantage in doing higher levels. Bring consumables and be prepared to have your armor shredded.

Ok so its not just me but I still don't understand why they would penalize us for doing quests above our current lvl unless say your lvl 3 and you go to the lvl 50 zone then yah you shouldn't get anything but when its only a few lvls above you I don't feel that I should be penalized exp wise when im looking for a challenge

the veteran quests do you can only got like 1 or 2 lvls above your VR rank I dont know about normal though.

I didnt see any levels that paid out lesser with money, loot or skill points. Just if you werent prepared with sufficient skills or are going solo you may frag out lots. (if you are fighting against enemies > 3 levels above you, be sure to be in a group .. that can significantly boost your chances of getting through).

Remember, some areas have a respawn limit after which you will only respawn at a wayshrine sometimes at the opposite end of the map!! Grrr

The question I would ask back is why are you doing this when there is no advantage to it?
