Is Molag Bal final boss Unbalanced?

Before i begin let me tell you i'm not asking for nerf, just for someone to tell me
Why is Molag Bal aimed at Heavy/healing characters?!

See here's the thing, I currently Vet rank one, my build itself is a
Night-blade/archer, with medium armor. I put a huge amount of attributes into stamina/health since i'm a WW (Which needs a massive overhaul, but that's another topic) I only really use my archery/duel wield abilities rather than my magic ones and its worked for me really up until the Molag Bal fight.
See i built my character for support/DPS. Why? Because that's what i enjoy doing.

The way Molag Bal is right now, I cant outrun him to get range to shoot because he slows me down buy throwing the damn souls at me, I cant go in Melee because I don't have the healing for it, and medium armor isn't going to help me fend off a giant mace now is it? So what am i to do? How am i suppose to access the veteran content when Molag Bal can throw a few souls at me and instantly get me down to no fricken life left?!

It was the same way with Mannimarco (Who I beat with 10 health left) the bosses in the main quest are focused on Heavy armor, and healing characters, nobody cares about the DPS archers?! Why?! Did I mention the fact that my knock back arrow makes me fly?! That's right! FLY! its doesn't even knock you back, it does the animation and then lets you HOVER! With every time i start up the game i get more an more disappointed...i'm not asking for miracles, i'm just asking for a final boss that everyone can fight without spamming a restoration staff...and don't even get me started on the cheap ass titan spawning....

You would think that with the powers of Talos, (Who by the way represents "Invincibility" ) that that battle wouldn't be so one-sided...

I'm honestly not sure what major problem you could be having. I play the same build (Medium Armor Nightblade, Bow/Dual Wield) and didn't find anything particularly difficult. I do have Funnel Health as my one healing skill (small as it is), though I don't think I ever dropped below 80% health anyway.

Dodge rolling will get you out of trouble, whether it's his melee swings or AoE attack. The AoE move in particular takes such a long time for the animation to finish, you should easily be able create a large gap for Bow usage (I almost exclusively used the Bow during the fight). Do you have Athletics and Windwalker in the Medium Armor tree, as well as Hasty Retreat in the Bow tree? Those will keep you moving for a while.

Just don't burn through your Stamina, use a lot of normal attacks, and dodge out of the bad stuff.

Thanks, but After asking around, i found that funnel health basically made me invulnerable. I feel like an idiot for not using it, but since i became a WW, i re-classed my skills to use so much stamina, and pretty much dropped all my magic attacks besides of course cloaking, anyway, kept using funnel health and finally got it done, thnx for the help but i'm good now thnx :)

MQ bosses seem to favor certain builds and skills.

I wear heavy armor. Still get rolled if Im not on top of it.

Silver bolts is practicslly reqired for some fights. For example:

I finished both Maged Guild and Fighters Guild by letting NPCs fight for me and keeping the mobs locked down with silver bolts.

    AT LEVEL 37.

Only fight that gave me trouble was the final final fight on Fighters guild because the last mob is a level 50 dw nightblade.

    Level 37.

    Because of Silver Bolts.

Tell me that *** aint broken.

This is a level 43 quest.

    What the fork?

I think Molag Bal is unbalanced (I think most of the bosses are unbalanced - just a few days ago I soloed a level 15 group dungeon on auridon and the boss killed me - a VR1. That's unbalanced).

My character is a balanced built VR1 Templar. Health, stamina and magicka are all about even. I usually use some food to boost stamina and magicka and sometimes all three. And I can't kill Molag Bal. I can get him down to where he calls the titans in less then a minute. But then it's all over. The titans kill me and MB usually jumps into the battle before all the titans are gone and kills me with one shot.

I'm very pissed. I've been able to kill every boss after at most 5 or 6 deaths. But this is just making me really mad!!!! I've died 10 times and have no more gold to repair my armor.

And now I have to download again because the patch manifest error is happening AGAIN!!!!!!

    NOT A HAPPY CAMPER.

And why the hell does MB reset to full health after I die. And if I teleport out I have to go through the entire last part of the quest to get back to molag bal after dying!!!!

    eerrgrggrgrgrgrggrgggggrgrgrgrhrhrhrhrhrhrrgrgrh!!!!!!!

you can cheese most of his damage by walking in circles around him. The three bolts from the sky for example will never track you properly. Forgot what else he does, but once I did that I kicked his face in with mostly white gear. Definitely need to have some healing that isn't just passive regen though.

He's good at keeping bots out of VR :)

I got him down my first shot, but it was a pretty long fight and I almost died quite a few times. The difficulty was perfect for me, though it really made me wonder how they expect the majority of players to make it through.

Molag Bal is easy. Just hold block when the titans show up (it reflects their breath back at them)and never stop moving. It becomes an endurance fight at that point.

I would say nothing up to the VR content was OP or unbalanced (many bosses could have been harder). VR that changes, some are just flat out rediculous, immune to CC, can two hit plate wearer with normal attacks and have 10K+ health (many are still doable, you just need the right build, and play really tediously).

I also don't believe that being high level should give you a free go to just run through lower level group dungeons.

I have no Resto abilities, am a full cloth Sorcerer (no pets) and beat him on my third try. There's a tactic (not an exploit, I'm talking an actual tactic, lol) any class can use to beat him, you don't need heals. I didn't even use potion. It's very possible. I got lucky and accidentally figured out some things right away and then the fight was not so bad. Heck, I though Mannimarco was much worse.

NOTE: I will confess, I did use Dark Exchange a couple of times, so you could say I did heal. But I don't use a resto staff, so no dedicated healing.

I beat him on first try as a vamp sorc.
I use resto staff because I don't have self healing abilities from my class tree.

Skill I put on the action bar:

mist form: I use this a few times to run after he jump (maybe can be replaced with boundless storm or bolt escape)
healing spring: i use this occasionally if I get hit by aoe
    mutagen: occasional use
degeneration: from entropy - try to drop it as much as I can.
dark exchange: not being used at all

ultimate: storm atronach (not that helpful since molag bal moved around)

My mana stay mostly at 90%-100%

I use mostly staff light attack and sometimes heavy attack.

For the Titan, I just block (right mouse button -- hold this and you will see them die 1 by 1) and they die almost instantly or I throw in 1 -2 light attack to kill it.

correction, you get VR by reaching 50, not by defeating him.

You don't need any healing or armor for this fight. Just dodge his moves. Have a AoE attack for his titans to kill them in one or two hits.

As for Molag bai, Just put Dot On him and dodge. Use potions as needed. And run in circles.

Thats the baby way to do it, but it works just fine.

I killed Mol as a 2 hand templar in light armor.

I only had skillpoint in my class abilities and restro stuff im full healer, but i dident even have a problem with him, you are a god in that stage of the game, your block is broken and the titans die in like 3 secs and if you use your ultimate in that phase from aedric spear? you dont even need to do anything they just die. The only thing you need to do is dodge mol attacks.

    PS:
I only used skills on the titans i killed mol with light attacks.
The game is about managing your resources, you will learn it in Vet Zones.

I must suck... I have been rolled like 10 times... my squishy ass can't last pass the adds... and by the time I port out to repair I look like lyris titanborn leaving the harborage doing the walk of shame.

Seriously, I passed me off I had to go level another toon.

    All advice welcome.

Have an aoe ability for adds. Or not. They die ridiculously fast, you could just spam a single target damage spell until theyre dead.

Just like in any other single player situation, have a way to heal yourself and move out of damage and you shouldnt have a problem with this encounter.... especially if you beat Mannimarco. He is much harder than Molag Bal.

I used block on his mob and that took them down very quickly.......on him, I used bolt escape and crystal shard.......along with my restro staff. He went down my first try. (I though he was kinda easy really)......lots of other bosses have give me more trouble than he did.

I was a 49 templar with bow as second weapon at level 28 and I took him down on my second try. I didn't even melee him once. poison arrow, knockback, silver bolts, reflective and heal was all I used as skills but 75% of my attacks were white bow shots. Took 10 minutes but he went down.

  • torstenb16_ESO8
Yes, game is unbalanced as hell, as an archer it was not possible to kill manimarco with a bow, i had to skill sword an shield and then it was possible to kill him.But Molag Bal was down in 3 to 5 minutes with a bow.

siphon was key for me, I had the exact same problem , the titans always did me in, I was able to take molag bal down pretty fast and with no damage to my health, just dodged a lot and hit with bow, but as soon as titans came down I took one or two out and then id just get hit by all their attacks at once and die, but once you get siphon you run around them, they will group in up a giant titan group, and you hit siphon over and over and over again, targeting all the titans and then hit them with other attacks, then keep siphoning and your health should be fine.

I beat mannimaco with a bow...then proceeded to cry like a baby as i had previously died to him 28 times. I actually beat him with 4 health due to his wall hacking skulls and adds.

I beat molag bal once i realized i could use funnel health to become basically immortal (Due to the massive health regen buff) my orinal post here kind of out dated XD

The key to Molag Bal is to realize if you block, the titan breaths bounce back at the titans and they commit suicide. So when the titans appear, just hold down the block key and watch them all die in about 10 seconds.

After that, you just keep moving in a circle, use DoT and HoT and stay away from him. Takes a while but he eventually gets whittled down.

In all seriousness, did you really expect the fight with Molag to be nothing more than "run around in circles and nibble at his ankles while avoiding getting stepped on?" I didn't. I was extremely disappointed that's what it took.

He may be unbalanced or he may not be as it seems there are some who have a hard time and some that have an easy time with him. However, I do feel the fight is poorly designed.

I did it with a Bow.

I also killed Mannimarco with a bow (it most certainly is possible).

In fact, ive played the whole game through to the end of Vet 10 and never used any other weapon.

I really dont understand all these "boo hoo, im a NB with a Bow and life is so hard" posts.

NB bow users can solo most of the world bosses and pretty much every quest in the game. (I will concede that there has been 1 quest I couldnt do, which involved trying to kill Vet10 Storm Atronach thats immune to everything, including Cloak - due to it having a large hp pool. Although, I could probably do it if i wanted to spend the time figuring it out, which i dont).

It's not so much that bosses are unbalanced, but rather there's such a wide spread of skills that only provide a rather narrow selection of viable combinations. So you end up with endless ways to gimp your character, a couple of workable builds and a few truly OP ones.

Yes i agree. I think that some bosses in fighter/mage guid are just unbalanced but Molag Bal is easy kill with resto staf, no need any skil points just run, shoot and block. Most important part is that when molag bal jumps towards you just run otherway. It's good to keep helth potions in quickslot bar.

I just killed him on my level 47 vampire NB, in 5 light/2 medium armor, using a bow. I basically just used venom arrow, funnel health and white damage, and avoided the red circles. Like somebody else said, never stop moving.
