EU Megaserver and it's languages

First and foremost allow me to begin by saying that this is post is not intended as some sort of xenophobic attack, it's merely an observation and question from an entirely neutral viewpoint.

I'll jump right in with it, I rarely see English chat in the Zone channel. Plenty of German, plenty of French, a combination of other languages but little to no English. As an English speaking player coming into ESO alone I'm beginning to feel a huge disconnect with the community on my chosen faction.

I was playing in Glenumbra last night for a good few hours and aside from the occasional guild recruitment message (which I had to scroll past the other languages to read) everything else was in another language.

Is this something prevalent across all factions and is only being drawn to my attention because of the fact that the majority of text I see -isn't- English or is the Daggerfall Covenant just more popular in Germany and France?

I have joined the "Zone English" channel but nobody seems to be using it... at all. Whilst there are "Zone French" and "Zone German" channels, I think everyone expects the standard zone channel to be the most used and I fully understand that. It's just the lack of English in chat is a tad alienating.

As I said, I don't mean this in any way to be dismissive of other tongues and languages, it's just an observation and having not spent too much time playing the other factions, wondered if it's the same across the game.

Disabled the general chat the first 10 minutes of playing. That is how annoying I thought it was. Literally no one bothering writing in english.

Thanks for the advice, but as already mentioned:

On top of that, the real question I asked was if the Daggerfall Convenant was predominantly German/French or is the abundance of non-English speakers something that is happening across the game. For obvious reasons I'd rather play where people spoke my mother tongue, if that happens to be another faction I'll re-roll there before I progress too far.

TBH I've never used the English zone and I've never noticed any lack of English used in normal zone chat, if you have an issue with it, join an English guild. Most of the Zone chat is full of spam crap anyway!

Im in the Daggerfall and 90 % of the chat is english there, my native language is German (Austria) but ingame i only speak english. But the servers is for everyone from europe and nobody is forced to talk english and i think thats a good thing.

So the actual problem is that the english community don't use that chat.

    We have these facts:
    - It's a multi language game
    - Public zone chat is for everyone
    - There's different zone chats for each released language, english included

Then, what is it exactly the point you want to make? :) Maybe you should try to encourage the use of the "Zone English" chat. I really wouldn't like that people started wanting only one language in the public zone chat, though I admit it's more polite if everyone can understand what we're saying there.

I hope I'm not sounding rude, I assure you I don't want to. I don't even have a zone chat for my mother tongue, but I am in a fantastic guild where I can always speak in my language.

Also, you can always try to role-play that. Imagine all these people are german speaking elementals, like the quest

I hardly see any non-english chat in /zone.
Might be dependent on the zone you are in, but in Cyrodiil, Rivenspire and Alkir almost everyone talks in english.

Sometimes you see a guy ask a question in german or french and two or so people answering him, but it rarely goes over 4 or 5 lines.
Even most guild recruiting to ger/fr/ru only guilds are written in english.

What you do see a lot is people with regional clients selling items which are then shown in their language, but if you click the item you see it in english.
Or if you're not interested in trading you just don't pay them any attention like you'd do everyone else obviously selling something.

I play a fair amount and I see nearly all English nearly all the time, at least 10 to 1.

If you're having that rough of a time, maybe you might want to consider joining the NA server? Just a thought. I don't know from personal experience, but I've heard people say there isn't much of a difference in lag. I'm not even sure if the EU servers are in EU, or how that works, but might be worth looking into.

No idea whats the situation there in daggerfall, but almost everyone in the dominion is talking english :)
I am german, but i am always writing english in groups, general zone chat or in the forum.

Tho i am not offended by french or german posts, i feel like it is just polite to write in a language which almost every EU-Player understands to a certain degree.
That, and usually there is some troll who likes to call germans a ***, after they wrote something in their motherlanguage, which would just unnecessarily upset me : /

I'm in the Dominion. I mostly see English in zone chat, with a bit of French here and there. I met quite a lot of French players when I was questing, so I think there's a big French community in AD, but they're still clearly a minority in general chat.

Both megaservers are currently in the US, so no, there's absolutely no difference.

You know I enjoyed the guardian quest more while it was in german,
i now know what "Schnell kommen hierher, schlecht schützen." means and it only took me 2 deaths to work it out, back on topic .....

Im an English man and English is my mother tongue, I have nothing against people speaking in their native language.

I quite like it as it reminds me we are GLOBAL, if I don't understand what they just said ill ask if they speak English or I use the broken google translate.

Broken communication is better than no communication is say.

    Can't say i've noticed.

Mainly because I had to turn chat off.

Only so many times you can read people begging for werewolf or vamp bites before it gets irritating.

Thanks for the replies. Like I said, I've no issue with people speaking other languages it's a European game for European players and encompasses all of the languages spoken and that's great.

I'm just having a rough time finding the English speakers that's all, maybe it's partly due to my unsociable play times but I can only comment on what I see. Perhaps the NA server would be my best option given the times I'm actually able to play.

    Again, thanks for the input!

I've seen a pretty even mix of languages in DC, mostly English and German, and occasionally French. I think in your case the English speaking people are just not as talkative as the Germans or the French.

Perhaps the NA server would better suit your needs indeed, if you have odd playtimes that would match. That's the only reason I don't play on the NA server, since I would be online whilst everyone else is sleeping or working. :)

I do like the diversity of the EU server, and I'm not a native English speaker myself, but I can totally understand that you sometimes feel alienated.

I play in Ebonheart and there is a lot of english speaking people there but I think the most seen language is german.

I joined a trading guild that seems to have a lot of german members but they all use english in guild chat.
There are times when german pops up in guild chat nut mostly it's english
