Metal Shields

Can someone tell me if metal shields can be crafted, if so by what crafter? I can't find the ability on any crafter I have. Surely, if we can make weapons, we can make the shields to go with them? Or are the wooden shields supposed to suffice?

Seems to only be wooden shields. Guess this is to prevent blacksmithing from being the only crafting skill a tank needs.
