Bring another player and it's not an issue. There are usually players there looking to group because of the difficulty solo for many classes.

    YOU CAN'T GROUP!!!!

You can. I did, on more than one character.

I used Shadow when he made his green circle. He got confused and his shade buddies never showed up. I wore him down with Strife, Silver Bolts and Blockade of Fire while kiting with Shadow. :)

Yay, I fought him about 20 times today at VR2.....I haven't beat him yet! It's kind of silly for him to be twice as tuff as Molag Bal. I tried to get some help but none of the helpers could enter with me.

I eventually gave up too. Luckily it's not part of the main quest line.

But it highlights a problem with "solo" VR quest content: if the mini-boss can not be crowd controlled, it is extremely tough for many.

I even ran into the same problem with a few gargoyles that are not even marked as special in any way in another "solo" dungeon, Shrine of the Black Maw, in the next zone after that, Shadowfen: 13K hit points, CC immunity and hit like a truck. Even my Greater Storm Atronach could do nothing against it...not even grab aggro. In the end I just had to use Ball of Lightning to run to the end room where, ironically, I could handle the non-gargoyle boss just fine solo...because he wasn't CC-immune.

I know that there are bigger problems to address and solve before they get around to doing VR-level balance tweaks. I just hope I don't run into one of these in a must-solo instance that is part of the main quest line for Ebonheart.

This *** and the general have almost made me want to quit. Don't force me into solo fights that in VR you can't just "level" and come back. Some of these quests are required to complete to get credit to move onto the next VR zone. As a sorc he hands me my ass because there isn't much room to run around in, can't reliably interrupt him, and if I miss ONE cc then I'm dead. It's just *** stupid....

This was a gut check! Loved it!

Tried him first at level 17 with some slightly dated gear. Came back at 18 with updated gear and still died a few times.

Finally got him down through interrupting his main attack (red swirlies) and slowly backing up as he cast the green circle on the ground that I think poisons and summons his shade.

It's doable, but it's a gut check for sure.

I'm sure it's doable. Question is, by which percent of players and what is actually the intended percent. I belong to those who didn't manage it even after many attempts. When I was standing too close, he beat me to death. When I was kiting, I did not manage to interrupt on time. I was running out of Magika without being able to feel as if I am damaging him enough (My Magika regen is slightly above the soft cap for lvl 18). I tried to combine it with Stamina based attacks but the kiting kept it too low.

I am obviously doing it wrong. Question is: how many players are skilled enough to do it right? :)

I must have beat him in the past because I have played this at lower levels in the past?.......I really don't remember him being a major problem. At VR2 he must get a lot tuffer because he is now the tuffest single boss I have fought at this rank. I'm going to come back and try him again in a few days!

So essentially you didn't complete the quest, you used an exploit and cheated.

Plague Bringer. The alchemist is the bane of my existence.. I first tried him at lv 16 with my templar.. I tried him again every level upto 22.. then at 30, again at 40.. I get slaughtered everytime.

The only thing that occurs to me, maybe build an argonian, add in pots/enchants to resist poison. Don't know if his poison is even resistible.

That said.. I got further with him that I did in anchors... and less so with flidgar. These 3 quests I haven't been able to complete at any level.

Ok, I just took this guy down at VR2. I used bound armor, my Bow (venom arrow)....Unstable clannfear, crystal blast, and bolt escape to stay away from him. After I got him down around 30% health I dropped in my storm antronach and let it.... and the clannfear pound on him.....bolt escaped far away...... and opened up on him with my bow for the finish!!!!!!

I got 1 skill point and 15 gold.

After several deaths, I found this video and used the same kiting method. Just run back and forth in the middle of the room. I also used a bow with absorb health (blue level rune, 10 magicka dmg/absorb 4 health and 3% weapon/spell crit boost on a white bow). I also used Vamp bane, piercing jav, and an occasional silver bolt. Bow isn't talented for anything, so it was just the base dmg of the bow+rune dmg and templar attacks. Just run down the middle like a scared rabbit and avoid his melee (his hits have some serious bleed dmg to them). I never tried to get close to interrupt, but you can run fast enough w/o sprint to get out of its range.

Just did this while VR2. Ended up dying 3 times, before flagging down someone else who was trying to do the quest.

Grouped up together, we killed him without much effort.

I'm ignoring those people posting above, stating that they're going to quit the game because they have to group with someone to finish a quest.

I beat him first time through by just kiting him, running around in circles & using my AOE.
However second time through I did a similar thing & he just vanished.
Came back later & he was there again, tried to kite him & he vanishes again.
So let me get this straight, you can't use crowd control against him because this one human assassin is randomly immune to it simply because he's a boss & you can't even kite him because it bugs out.
Well time to grind so I'm high enough level to destroy him with power alone. I though that you where better than this ESO.
  • cucmw5ub17_ESO
Died five times to this guy. Nightblade bow/2h specs. Without being able to slow or cc this guy at all, dpsing him down at VR2 is not an option. His melees hit for 20% of your health, and his power attack for about 50%. Not to mention stupid hallucinations can hurt you somehow.

Eventually gave up and decided to try something really stupid, which worked:

    1) As a bow-nightblade, sprinted from one end of the room (bosses dont sprint), dps him a little with light attacks and Strife.
    2) When he catches up to you, sprint past him before he can charge up his [Agony] stun and power attack. Sprint all the way to the other end of the room.
Use a health potion whenever it's off cooldown, as Strife alone won't keep you up.
    3) Once you're on the other side of the room, rinse and repeat.

*You're very likely to run out of stamina sprinting by the time he's below 50%, even if you're like me and have 30+ pts in Stam and over 95 stam recovery on overcharge. You might be tempted to use your Magicka to recharge some stamina from your Shadow passive, but you'll need to save all of it for Strife.
*Anything, even ults with a casting or channeled time (like Soul Strike) are generally a bad idea as they expose you to his painful white swings. Whether you interrupt his Agony or not, you're still in for a world of hurt.

Slowest, dumbest, most costly way I've ever had to defeat a poorly designed quest boss. If you're going to make him immune to cc, at least make more of his damage avoidable other than sprinting back and forth across the room.

P.S. As though to spite you even more, he chugs potions of his own, so come prepared with a healthy supply.
P.P.S. And after running out the caverns, the female NPC chides Varon with a "I TOLD you Varon, our champion survives!" Hah, right...

Did as you say (including the bow) and it worked like charm on the 1st attempt. Ended the fight with over 90% health. I felt so silly for dying so many times before :D

VR2 - took a few tries, but GF... stam food helps a lot too. Yeah it's not easy, but there's a skill point waiting for you on the other side. More kiting :)

Looks like, as far as soloing goes, a big strategy involves "don't be melee." Guess I'd better get me a group, cause if this guy kills me one more time, I'm gonna put a fist through my monitor.

Killed it easily on my 16 dual wield melee nightblade.

    I run:
    Shadow Disguise(Invis + Crit)
    Whirlwind(didn't use during fight)
    Killers Blade(Assassins blade morphed)
    Blinding Flurry(Flurry morph)
Surprise Attack(Veiled Strike morph for 40% armor pen)

with my ultimate, Soul Harvest(Assassination ultimate morphed for more ult recharge)

Open with Surprise Attack, blow all your stamina on flurries, interrupting his red cast asap. Once you interrupt his red cast, he'll pop the green aoe. Move out of that, then pop shadow disguise and re-open with surprise attack to refresh the armor pen. By now he should be about 40% hp, pop your ult on him, whack him once or twice more, then spam killers blade until he's dead. Didn't need to pot at all.

That guy cost me 10 souls gems on VR2 yesterday, too. I actually used the cart just on the left to have him run in circles and used my restoration staff attacks to kill him in a 10minute fight. He is just ridiciously hard! Just walk behind the cart and watch when he turns around to go to around the pillar to the other cart side. You can land a heavy attack with a staff on both sides then go behind the cart to the other side, rinse, repeat. He did manage to root and hit me a couple times, but as I was on restoration staff, I could always survive the DoT.

Ahhm, I don't want to pour salt on your wounds :o but you didn't have to use soul gems. Choosing "Resurrect at the nearest Wayshrine" would have landed you at the entrance of the cave at the final boss phase.

The tactics which is shown here worked for me on my 1st attempt to implement it (Templar lvl ±20-22, used bow as weapons and Magicka based class damage abilities). Up until then, I was not able to kill that boss.

Trying this boss on veteran. The damage he does is ridiculous. And immune to CC? Really?

Also, the only way I can survive is by kiting him around. But every time I try this eventually he gets stuck in a pillar and, instead of teleporting out or resetting LIKE ANY NORMAL MOB IN ANY MMO EVER MADE he despawns and doesn't come back for over half an hour (no, abandoning quest doesn't work, neither does relogging).
That's right, they make a boss you absolutely need to kite, then think it's fair to despawn him for ages if he gets his dumb self stuck.

Whoever designed this boss is an idiot and I would dearly love to find and personally slap them across the face.

Update: Killed him by pulling out a bow and dashing in a straight line from the entrance to the end of the cave and back hitting him as he ran to me and using Green Dragon Blood when he hit me.
Insultingly easy aside from it taking a long time.

This highlights a very big problem this game has, it is highly skewed against melee especially when the mob can't be CCed.
Overall range has a far, far easier time and I rather regret my choice of going with melee. Now sure, it's more of a problem when the mob is ranged too but melee gets no advantage there either.

From the comments above it seems clear that unless you have a bow and an escape, you're pretty much screwed in this fight. No CC, massive damage, and no forgiveness for missing a single interrupt... and this is supposedly, technically a solo quest. And for most classes/players seems to be too much trouble to finish without support.

Thus, real question I started asking myself after about my 7th VR2 attempt is this: why the hell isn't this he just walking into every venue the leaders of the EP are hanging out in and just killing them? I mean why the hell is this guy *** around with a few *** hole villages. YOU COULD BE *** EMPEROR MERDYNDRIL! I mean seriously, stop wasting your time on this pissy *** and just *** wreck the ***. And if you find a couple friends that are immune to CCs as well that want to hang with you and watch your six, you got nothing to worry about.

On a serious note: another example of rather poor game design/balance. For the immediately above reason. This guy has enough mad skills that he should clearly just be able to walk in and take over.

Finally, if you beat this guy at VR2 in a real fight, my hat is off to you. Consider yourself added to my hero list. Peace.
