We are actually past the creation of the Dark Brotherhood. The split happened within the last 600 years roughly. Timeline puts the creation at 2E0. Possibly with an error of +/- 50 years.

The timeline puts it at "date undeterminable". I can see where you'd be confused because it's at the top of the section.

It's sometime before 324 and 360 when there was a major transition, though the worship of Mephala was still practiced. It's unclear exactly when the Night Mother that we know from the TES games that speaks through Sithis came into existence.

Basically it's one of the Mortal leaders of the outlawed Morag Tong that eventually makes the pact with Sithis.

I'm not sure why it says sometimes after 2E 324 though, like something happened in that year, but it was not enough to spawn the DB just yet?

I did find a lorebook in ESO, which I reported, as it seems to be coming straight out from Skyrim textwise, and as such, was from the future (unless I read it wrong), but I never got a staff to confirm either way, and I can not for my life, find that book again .

I "think" it was this one that I reported, although I was stupid enough not to write down the name of it, because I only realised something was not right a day or two after finding the book during a convo in my guild: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Online:The_Brothers_of_Darkness_(1st_ed.)

If memory did not fail me, you can clearly see something is not right, as it talks about Morag in the past, while they're still very much present

I'd love to find that damn book again in ESO, to check, since this has actually been bugging me... Memory can fail, and well... I could have well remembered another ES game's book and believe I read it in ESO

Anyway, since the morag tong is still present, I believe, we could witness the birth of the DB, when I read that book, I was sure it's what was going to happen...

Maybe I could bribe a ZOS staff with some lockpicks, I got so many of those...

Morag Tong was outlawed in 2E 324 because they murdered a Potentate and the Night Mother smeared the words Morag Tong in blood on the wall.

That's "the last living Night Mother" they are referring to.

I guess, after the dark brotherhood is implemented, and if we are not the ones setting it up ( ), then the lore would make sense, aside from talking about the Morag Tong in the past, since they're still very much present in ESO.

So I think there's still some touches to be done on the text, as either the Morag Tong is already gone from ESO (not the case, yet should be), or the text is coming from the future, and is slightly wrong .

This link seems to say ESO is happening in 2E 583, if this is correct, the Morag Tong should be gone, and the NPC claiming to be from the Morag Tong should not be able to say this . As I understood that the Morag Tong was all but gone and replaced by the DB in 2E 321 or shortly after , 267 years is hardly "shortly after" .

Any mods or lore specialist able to clarify this little issue?

Or @zos_ameliaR if you know the answer to that riddle? It's been bugging me a bit, even if it is completely minor... it's like a cat smelling a ball full of catnip, but just out of its reach... it's driving me mad... well, madder.

*edit* while reading again the timeline, I noticed this:
1E 2920 Last recorded event of the First Era, Morag Tong assassinates the current King of Cyrodiil, King Reman III.
2E 0 At an early, undetermined time, the Dark Brotherhood is formed

So it would seem to suggest that the Morag Tong and DB co-existed/morphed from 1E2920 to 2E321. Which would make the presence of the Morag Tong even stranger in ESO :S

Last time I talked of the brotherhood my main got locked in a dungeon somewhere. The poor critter is hanging upside down.. I am forced to play an alt until I can free her..

It's good you guys have got a sense of humor, it would be better if you also could drop clangers occasionally and let us know what's going on.

I actually made a RP guild for the Brotherhood, but recruiting member's when your not allowed to talk about it, is allot more of a challenge then you would think lol feel free to check out the Forum I set up for it, as soon as DB goes live it will be disbanded.
