Why can't we see our back bar weapons?

With all the advancements to the game with throwing shields etc why are our back bar weapons still not displayed on our character? I wish both my sword and shield as well as my bow and quiver were visible so badly! It would also be handy for PvP because then we'd know what they're running on their back bar. I get some would hate having others know their back bar but there are less obvious weapons that those types would typically use I am sure.

I don't even want my front bar weapons showing when I'm out of combat. I don't mind having one handed swords or daggers at my sides as much as a Staff or Two Handed Sword because that looks much more natural. But I really hate having long sticks stuck to my back. I can't even imagine what it would be like having 2 weapons there.

There are some outfit styles that disappear when you sheat them. But would be nice to have an option to have all showing.

Believe the reasoning Zenimax claimed was something about the character model skeleton having some limitations, meaning they'd have to entirely redo it to make both weapons show... but I take everything they say with a grain of salt. Maybe one day, and I know I would be happy about it. I always run the same weapon type (destro+resto staff) because I hate vanishing and pulling weapons out of thin air.

...Meanwhile Zenimax keeps designing VFX that disappear weapons/replaces the player chosen weapon model. The new Molten Weapons especially irked me with that nonsense.

I use the Anniversary Staff and Sword styles, and after all the grinding it took to get them I don't want to change them. I just think there must be a better way to hold a Staff or a Two Handed Sword besides sticking them to our backs. What exactly is holding them there in the first place?

That is why I'd like the option to hide them when out of combat.

The first character I played a Bosmeri Warden I made when I bought the game. I was in the Warden Beta and I was waiting for a class like that before I bought ESO. So, for like years I watched the game develop and then I finally got to play! Anyway, they used Bow/Bow and it wasn't an issue. Eventually I moved on to Necromancer and they are now my main but they used sword and shield and bow. Now it is an issue.

I didn't know I could hide them... I may pick up the bound set motif and do that. I don't really want bound weapons but it would make sense then to have them just appear and disappear.

As it is your character pretty much dislocates their shoulders every time they sheathe a staff...

This is why I got the Gloambound weapon pack from the crown store. Conjured / bound weapons that turn invisible when sheathed.

I don’t think there is, sheathing a staff on your hip would be awkward due to its length. Of course, it’s not like they’re magnetized, we just don’t have sheaths in-game for anything other than arrows. Realistically, there would be a sheathe of some sort.

I would love to see this added, but only as an option.

For some characters, seeing both weapon sets would look great. Sword/shield plus bow, dual wield plus staff, or bow plus quiver would make a lot of builds feel more complete visually. It is strange when a weapon just appears out of nowhere, especially when outfits and character identity are such a big part of ESO.

That said, I understand why some players would hate it. Two staves or two large weapons on the back could look cluttered, and some people already want fewer visible weapons out of combat, not more.

The best solution would be a visibility setting:

    Show active weapon only.

    Show both weapon bars.

Hide sheathed weapons out of combat.

Possibly make opponent back-bar visibility disabled in PvP if revealing builds is a concern.

That way players who want the immersion/fashion benefit can have it, and players who prefer cleaner character silhouettes are not forced into visual clutter. ESO already gives us a lot of outfit control, so weapon visibility feels like a natural next step.

I’m alright with an option but probably wouldn’t use it.

I didn’t like the other weapon being hidden at first, but it is helpful in those times during combat where a failed bar swap occurs and you can see you are using a different weapon than you intended.

Why can't I see the stack of 150 plates of food, 500 bottles of potion, back full of 30 thole gear fits.. Equally as valid.

I just realized, when I switch to my back bar weapon then I do see it on me. But we only equip one at a time so only the one currently equipped should show.
