Game Crashing and Studdering, Sometimes Locking Computer Completely Up.

Hello, So I'm a player that recently returned since I have gotten some more freetime and typically I used to use the client provided on the site since the closed beta when this game first launched but since spend more time on Steam lately I installed it via Steam after linking my account.

The issue: I launched the game via steam and get in game, but when I'm creating a new character it just crashes to desktop, after doing some digging it may because of my CPU so I proceeded to use a program called Process Lasso to limit my cores which got some stability but when transitioning through a loading zone (hard loading or soft) my game sometimes locks up completely music starts shuddering and then cuts out and I stare at a black screen, sometimes it recovers other times it causes everything else to lock up such as Discord Voice Call stops working, indicating my computer has basically locked up. Ideally I'd like to stop using a 3rd Party Tool to regulate the game it is kind of terrible that this is the first experience I have of the game after coming back in 6 years. I have noticed a bit better stability on Windowed Fullscreen vs pure Fullscreen. I am also running no mods. I have repaired my game twice, once via the Launcher and once via Steam's Verify Game files.

Computer Specs:
OS: Win 11 Pro 64-Bit
CPU: i9-12900KS Alder Lake
RAM: 128GB DDR5 @ 2000MHz
Motherboard: ROG Maximus Z690 EXTREME
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090
Storage: Game is installed on a 4TB M.2 Card.

    it's truly hinky tonight.

can't logon at all, client/server throwing every possible error with no discernable pattern.

oddly enough, i can log onto my secondary accounts.

Which NVIDIA drivers do you have?

The newest official - 595.97 - have been having terrible frame drops.

There's a hotfix - 596.02 - that's fixed the frame drops for me (search for "GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 596.02")

You could also try rolling back to 581.94

For CPU caused stuttering it could be core parking problem as your CPU has P and E cores: There's an app by the same team that make Process Lasso called ParkControl you can use to stop windows suspending cores it deems idle and also make it prefer performance cores: ESO doesn't really deal with performance/effeciency cores very well and I had a lot of stuttering and audio lockups when it was trying to run threads on E cores.

Prefering performance cores works better than forcing affinty to performance cores in Lasso: ESO can hard crash if there's no core available for a thread it wants.

If you're limiting cores make sure in Usersettings.txt you tell ESO how many cores and threads it can use.

    I found:

    SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "8"
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "4"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "4"

To be the most stable (my CPU has 8 P cores)
