Questing with frieds sucks!

I do not really understand how to play this game in a team. I bought this game to play with a friend, but we actually having trouble all the time. My friends character regularly disappears and I only see an arrow but not his character. He does not see mine. I have the impression this is based on the choices that my friend makes, which may be different from mine from time to time. How is this game meant to be played in a team?

Can someone please explain?

    That sometimes happen if you are in a different instance. Go to the group tab or press P, right click on the other in your group and port to him.

    Yes okay, however, there are sooooo many options in quests, that going the same quest path with friends is unrealistic and painful in practice. This game is designed as an MMO but wearing the clothes of single player games. It tries to be skyrim and WoW but it fails at both ends. HORRIBLE!

    the options are usually at the end of quests, so you guys are done there anyway. some are at the start, who to go save or whatnot but it is generally one step of the quest, if you don't agree on which option to pick there, it is one small step then you get back together for the rest, which will actually still be the same like and places to go.

    it is not trying to be skyrim or wow. every game should take what works in other games and make it their own. if new games don't take some aspects of other games, they will fail, just like any business anywhere.

    all those different options in quests work to make leveling alts a little more bearable. "i chose this last time, now i'm going to see what this option does" me and my buddies chose different options all the time...fun to compare the results.

    as for the chevron not being above your groupmate's head sometimes....that is a known bug i am sure they will fix when they get to it. more important things to work on first.

    also if you group up and cant see eachother, it was said before, travel to your group. there are many different instances of the game to keep population down, otherwise there would be 5 million people swarming you at all times. don't poopoo this....it is actually a very convenient thing!

    as for phasing. it generally happens at the end of a quest or when you aren't on the same part. if you are questing together you will be on the same part! then just leave the small area and you can see eachother again. this is a good thing. it makes the quests more immersive. if i put out fires and rescue villagers, i love that it phases into them rebuilding the town. the only way you can't see one another is if one of you is further along there in that little spot than the others.

    Using an "invite to group" to someone I can see or using the grouping tool, I have been unable to get group members visually at the quest and then begin it. I tried travelling to group, making a friend and travelling to friend, going to a location where we can see each other but must enter a portal or door, then traveling together at the same time to the other side of the portal...nothing is working. This is especially difficult when using the party grouping tool as you may find yourself in a group you are unable to see. I guess the transport workaround only works for some, but don't know why. Anyone find out an alternative? I have given up on group play until there is a way I can get it to work. Solo quests are...solo.

    Thank you for your reply, that was helpful. I think the game should try harder to explain the whole story/quest concept to the player, so that players who play together, know what is going to happen if they play together but chose different options in quests. Without such an "explanation" it is mysterious how quest decisions will influence their gameplay. As a player, I want to be able to know exactly how decisions will affect questing in a group.

    As my friends and I have learned - if you want to quest with someone - you really need to have dedicated toons to play with each other because the phasing thing is inconvenient.

    Don't get me wrong - I do generally like that they did that - but it does make grouping with others challenging. I can't take my lvl 10 character and play with his level 6 character to help him along, because we can't see each other most of the time. So - we made characters that we specifically play with only each other so we level at the same time. (rings of mara, anyone? the dev's already anticipated this)

    So - while it's inconvenient for the moment ... I'm hoping that after the initial low level questing is finished, there will be less phasing and more opportunity to join up with other folks as we play.

    I will be highly annoyed if the only way I can play with my friends is to PvP (which I personally don't like to do) - or create a slew of "static" characters.
