Sword and Shield DPS Kicked in Normal Dungeon

Was kicked for playing as a Sword and Shield DPS...

Kind of hit the nail on the head for why I don't do group content - other people try to tell you how to play, rather than enjoy the experience how you want to play, with your build, not theirs or some meta they believe is the "only way".

If you insist on doing group content, try to get your own group together, arrange with everyone in advance.

    It goes both ways.

I don't think that it's a hot take to want a pleasant and relatively quick experience with the Dungeon Finder.

Like, we shouldn't be looking to grief other players based upon our own selfishness, either. That goes both for ultra-speedrunners who leave everyone in the dust and also for players using like objectively bad roleplaying builds when they have the option to... NOT do that (it doesn't have to be a meta build but there are limits that one's conscience should place as to how large of an imposition that one wants to make upon the other parties).

Like, just because I CAN go into a dungeon without any gear and do exclusively unarmed Heavy Attacks for 500 DPS doesn't mean that I SHOULD do that or that I wouldn't be basically trolling the whole group by being that self-indulgent.

For the OP, as long as you were not stealing aggro from the tank and were not completely slacking on damage then it's fine and you should not have been kicked.

I agree for the most part, like, there are limitations for me personally. I won't completely gimp myself. I might make a build based on immersion, but I will do my best to build that character well to make him as useful as possible with the chosen build. For an example, I was popping 52K DPS on the 21 Mill Trial Dummy, so not great by any stretch of the imagination, but is high enough to say that I am doing my role on a Normal Dungeon. My Bash hits hard, very hard. Now that does not calculate in my Killer's Blade, which hits extremely hard once the Boss/NPC hits 50%. So I'm sure my DPS is actually higher than that when you factor that in. I figured it was high enough that other players would be okay with it in Normal Dungeons. What I didn't take in to consideration, is that players in general aren't running a parser to see for themselves.

As I said earlier, the build is capable of DDing even in most veteran content, you'll also have higher survivability than most. Perfectly fine numbers for a normal dungeon.

BUT you can also get wayyyy higher numbers than 52k on a parse with it. :p

I feel for you man and I applaud your spirit. Just keep going. In normals there are so many fresh characters without actual builds, you may as well have been 95 % of the group DPS and they probably would have still voted you out. Petty, narrow-minded players without a real clue are often just going by appearances. And their run usually wont go any faster with a 3-player group...

Best thing you can do is to keep doing your thing, showing others that fun is allowed. The most fervent and dogmatic meta worshippers in the dungeon finder tend to rock the lowest APM and combat awareness stats, because that wasn't explained in the build video they watched. Good players usually carry such a run by themselves and it hurts no one to at least stop for a second and look if the other player might be more apt than the first glance betrays.
