Could someone please explain me (I'm ex wow player) why maintenance in ESO takes so long? And why it is during the day? I can't comprehend it.
I understand when it's a release of a huge content update, but not every week.
I remember back in 2023 people lost their minds when blizzard made one time maintenance from 3am to 11 am. But here it's like every week and sometimes even 2 times per week and people are ok with it?

Actually, what they are doing is randomly logging into our accounts and laughing at our poorly built toons.

so i don't mind about fixing the game, also idc when they land their maintenance, i am about to be happy to have a rest of ESO.

And that’s all you get, just a "rest" of a game, struggling to stay alive just to earn a few more coins.
ZoS could run maintenance every day now, twenty hours a day, the ESO we have today will never be more than a “rest” of what it once was.

There's a bunch wrong atm, so no doubt we need the maintenance - but it's poor planning on their part to need 3 in a single week's time, no matter how you cut it.

It's also debatable just how much is actually being done to correct the current gameplay issues, with the wording of Kevin's post. This might just be some scheduled backend stuff that doesn't have anything at all to do with the things people are mentioning.

i wonder if people REALLY play the game, but not sitting afk in some zones/houses. THERE ARE A FEW DAMN GAMEBREAKING BUGS, quick fix is neccessary [snip]

[snip] respect other players who can't play game cause of those bugs [snip]
[edited for profanity bypass & baiting]

You will be glad to learn that none of these gamebreaking bugs will be addressed in this maintenance. So let's all just sit back and enjoy not playing the game together.

Zos are really ridiculous with this, each month there is over 4 maintenance…

Indeed, they have not even *acknowledged* most of the u48 animation and combat issues, and this is not a patch maintenance, so don't get your hopes up for some sort of fix.

Interesting, that seems to have been posted quite recently? Not sure why the are being so weird with the communication about these issues, as compared to many other bugs from the wall event / u48.

I wouldn’t get any hopes up for any bugfixes this round. This seems like 100% a backend thing… which means we will be getting another maintenance once they can fix the combat bugs.

There’ll probably be another incremental patch on Monday, but if they’re going to wait until then to address the gamebreaking combat bugs while the Tribute leaderboards were a top-priority fix…

This is just another example of ESO’s skewed priorities. There is currently a bug affecting all combat by making several weapon passives fall off on barswap. This is a huge thing for anyone who does any combat in the game (which is everybody), so more people are affected than those who play Tribute. Even if we want to narrow it down to people who would actually feel the effects of this bug (aka people who play vet dungeons and trials and any PvP), that’s still more people than the number who play leaderboard Tribute.

Remember back in July 2020 when the game was down so often and then they actually put up a free bundle of goodies as an apology? https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/58493
…may be time to reconsider something like that. And not the same stuff - that’ll just be an insult to the people you apologized to before and still stuck it out.

Totally agree with you but just on this point - I encountered numerous combat bugs (random enemies going invulnerable; locked into the snipe animation and unable to do anything until zoning; skills sometimes not firing) even doing basic overland stuff for witches fest - I mean you won't die in overland like you will in higher end content, but I think it's bad enough that even casual players are noticing.

I've heard a lot of complaints and questions about skills not working properly in my rather casual social guild, which is unusual. And for new players, (ie: those who might be migrating over from new world) this is going to be their first impression of the combat system. Not good all around.

To give a bit of insight into why this maintenance is during day hours for EU:

ESO has one Master server in Texas. When it is taken down, the Slave server for EU cannot operate independently.
Thus if something happens to the Master server, such as maintenance in the early morning in Texas the EU server must come down as well.
If something happens to the EU server or the connection to the Master server, the EU server goes down.

Yeah, not exactly living up to their ethos about better communication, are they? Not that any of us are surprised, I'm sure...

Kevin is really good at his job, making him responsible for communication was honestly a great move from Zos, it’s a shame his hands are tied

srs point - couldn't this have been bundled with the 8 hour TOT maintenance?

You have to remember ZOS don't actually own the servers, they have to co-ordinate and schedule maintenances with the farm. Things like hotfixes will probably cost them a fortune, and the normal schedule will go ahead because it's already been booked.

As an ex WoW players myself, I will point out that WoW maintenances used to be legendary, to the point there were even guild names mocking it.

It would always overrun, there would always be server crashes and logon issues, and there would be bets on the forum as to how many hours it would be extended by.

"Never play on patch day" did not originate with WoW, but "Never play on maintenance day" did.

Thanks ZOS for bringing the servers up about one hour before the scheduled end time! I'm busy today with other activities today and I appreciate being able to get my event tickets during the few minutes I had available right after the servers came online.

We had some critical updates that needed to happen after some of the hotfixes from last week. We also had another hotfix to resolve some combat issue.

Sure, @ZOS_Kevin, but all of this seems odd and quite suspicious.s
On 27/10/25, the server was down for 6 hours.
On 29/10/25, it was down for another 4 hours.
And now, on 03/11/25, it’s been down for 8 hours.
That’s 18 hours of downtime in just the last eight days.

I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that these so-called “critical updates” or “critical bugs” just appear out of nowhere. It really feels like ZoS is taking the servers down for reasons they’re not telling us. Maybe, just maybe, these “critical bugs” aren’t random at all, but intentional triggers that give ZoS a reason to shut the servers down.

I’m sorry, but I can’t believe for a second that a bug like “bar swap removing all passives” just pops up by accident. I’m not buying it.

Maybe it’s all just “random bugs,” sure, but come on… something doesn’t add up. It’s becoming pretty clear that ZoS needs to close the servers more often than ever before.

So how about being honest with us, and telling us what’s really going on?
