Are the ESO moon phases reversed (compared to irl), or are these tiles just mis-named?

They should be named correctly. In order from left to right in your picture:

1. Full moon
2. Waning moon
3. New moon
4. Waxing moon

Take a look at the following of the Earth's moon for comparison.

I think the confusion might lie in the order of display. If the full moon were put in the middle with the waxing on the left and the waning on the right, it would match up to the order as displayed on most images for the Earth's moon.

It's correct and matches Earth's lunar cycle. It's just that several phased are missing.

I am more troubled by the fact that the moons seem to be locked in orbit with respect to each other. They would be different distances away and would not be constantly the same visual distance apart.

Simple question: which hemisphere are you from?
The sequence on the screenshot is similar to the lunar phases in Earth northern hemisphere, as the devs are from nothern one.



If you are in the southern hemisphere, then yes, it should look reversed for you. As the real life sequence for you looks like this one

It’s been a while since I thought of anything physics-like, so forgive me if I am not absolutely correct.

Three body problem is when they are all orbiting each other. I think the assumption for that is they are of equal mass. So in this case you can assume for an approximation that Nirn is not orbiting its satellites, because it has a much greater mass, and just that the two satellites are orbiting Nirn. You can also assume the satellites are at orbits at different distances from Nirn. I believe the lack of motion of the satellites with respect to one another is a simplification for the player so they are not confused. The moons do change their position in the sky but that is all. I do not believe they are supposed to be at Lagrange points because of the small separation between the two from Nirn.

You are assuming that the physics of our world apply to Nirn, when clearly they do not. Magic simply existing the way it does defies the science.

My friend saw that I had these up wrong in my house and showed me the right order. I then went around to my other houses where I had placed them and fixed them there, too.

Tamriel may not follow the same rules of physics as our universe but I feel better having these right!
