Infinite Archive: Two Threads of Fate lost at one time

Had a new one happen in IA today. I died on a stage right as a marauder was spawning (literally the same moment as Ulmor's water splash animation began and the health bar built up). Since I died, a message displayed that I had two threads of fate remaining. While I remained dead (and after that message displayed), Ulmor finished spawning, then went away. This caused another message displayed that I now had one thread of fate remaining. So I lost two threads with one death.
Is there a hard-coded rule that a thread of fate is lost when you lose to a marauder, not just when you die / your party wipes? If so, I may have discovered an edge case for that rule...
