Every time I click Play Norton now blocks the game for 60 seconds while it smart scans (Yes I know I can add it to my exceptions but that's not the point).
On my partners PC it literally locks up his machine until he hard resets.

I wondered what was going on. Mine opened, started to load and then stopped. It reopened after that and I had no idea what was going on. Dx

I never cared for Norton, McAfee, and other big antivirus programs, because they are just so intrusive and obnoxious. I would be playing Oblivion, Morrowind, or Skyrim in fullscreen mode (many years ago) when the dang antivirus would decide it was time to initiate a scan I didn't ask for, which would sometimes lock up or crash the game. Or it would decide that it needed to ask me if I wanted to renew my subscription which was about to end in another week or two, and to heck with whatever I was doing at the time and whether I just wanted it to leave me alone while I played a game unless it actually was something really urgent and not just some sales pitch. Whenever I get a new PC, the complimentary copy and trial subscription of whatever big antivirus program came preinstalled on the PC is always the first thing to go.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!
