Lost Base Class Skill Progression

I do not know the circumstances under which this happened, or how it could even happen. At the time, I thought it likely a visual bug, but I see this morning it is still the same.

Last night, I had been swapping out skill lines on one of my nightblades, and using the shrine, I noticed that "Impale" had a lock symbol over it, which I thought was weird. So I took the points out of it (it already had 2 points in, lol) and it showed me that Assassin's Blade was at level 1.

I just did daily crafting writs on this particular toon, and now it is at rank 2 of the BASE morph.

I don't like wasting XP from crafting writs, so years ago I had actually made a spreadsheet to track each my toons progress on every skill line. All of my toons have all of their base class skills with both morphs maxed. Checking my spreadsheet for this particular toon, yes, it confirms it for me.

I personally don't care much about re-leveling it, I still have Master Writs left, but there is clearly some sort of situational bug that can have players lose progress in their skill lines.

I believe this may have something to do with the reordering that some Nightblade skills underwent last year. Since they were placed lower, they now require more XP to morph than before.

Anything is possible with spaghetti, but I'm not sure how it would apply here.

I was on my nightblade, so it wasn't REALLY a subclassing thing. It was my base skill line.

Though maybe what you're saying / implying is that when I swapped that skill line out to level something else (which I have no idea if I did or didn't.... I'm inclined to think I didn't since I had 2 skill points in the skill with the morph and base) maybe it happened? You could be on to something.

Considering I've had all the class, weapon, armor, guild, alliance, etc (I don't have all of the werewolf ones done) completed for well over a year, it is just VERY strange.

Heya @BetweenMidgets, we checked in with the dev team and what @rnklippel said below is correct and why you are seeing what you are.

When the skill lines were reordered, you really should have given any skills already morphed a background bump in XP. To avoid confusing and off-putting situations like this where morphed skills become unexpectedly unmorphed.

    I don't follow.

It was my base main class skill, which I had already leveled (both morphs of). It was that same toon that had the skill reset to Assassin's Blade rank 1.

It had NO xp in the skill line AT ALL once I had removed the two skill points from the skill. As mentioned a few times, I had already leveled both morphs. The XP you see in the screen shot are from 2 rounds of daily crafting writs with an XP scroll running and the double XP event.

If what you say is true, and its because it now requires more XP, why did it have NO xp (aka Assassin's Blade Rank 1, no XP at all in the fill bar) when it was reset?

    I've seen this issue before.
Its the result of the new version of assassins blade technically being a different skill to the original as far as the system is concerned.

When the skills were re-ordered your ""new""Assassins blade skill had it's XP count set at zero, but you still were able to use impale because the skill point had previously been allocated to it.
When you took the skill point out you no longer met the requirements to put it back in.

    Annoying, I know.

Silver lining: it won't take you long to get back to Assassins blade 5, and I strongly suspect that once you put the skill point back in you'll go straight back to having impale 4 without having to re-level the morph.

Good clarification, this all makes sense to me. Thank you for a clear, and likely correct, explanation @Evil_Rurouni !
