Why have they still not added SOLO/Story Mode Dungeons?

Trying to solo the new 2 dungeons so I can read the tons of text and quests form all the npcs etc, but the 1st boss is too hard, 960 champ points and well geared Arcanist dps and still get 1 shotted near end of 1st boss, it's a joke... there needs to be solo mode for players to see story instead of spam spam spam skip it all just to keep up with he teleporting to bosses and 3k champions running through entire dungeon...

I mean they've mentioned in the past that a story mode was on their radar, but if I had to speculate I'd say the main issue is that they've seemingly cut back on development over the last couple years and slowed the pace of new content and features. Maybe it's still on their radar but who knows when they'll get to it. There are a lot of things that the game needs and that players have requested, and at least it seems to me, a smaller team with more limited resources than in the past... and they've talked about moving the focus more toward repeatable systems as opposed to story and questing, so it may not be a big priority.

Unless mechanics get in the way of soloing something you can solo all dungeons on normal mode. Make a Tank character.
If what you want is to solo anything using any character, then you will be disapointed.

So many other MMOs have this option for those who want to play the story. They are not caring about the reward at the end. MMOs should appeal to everyone, even the people who play solo. SWTOR did this a while back, offering a story mode for those players who solo and love the stories. This way, they can go at their own pace and not be forced to group with players who only rush to the end for the loot.

If the one shot attack you're referring to is the jump from Executioner Jerensi - you can move out of it with the Arcanist's Apocryphal Gate skill.

Also let me say this, I've played ESO since day 1 on PC and a bit on console, I have easily over thousands and thousands if hours int he game, BUT I've NEVER ONCE done a single Trial... the only MMO I've ever played I've felt and not been able to do the raids because of the gate keeping, the lack of features to group form and so on.

You do know they have some really friendly guilds out there that do all difficulties. They also added the group finder, normals are very beginner friendly.

There is no excuse not to do trials unless you don't want to. Moving into veteran takes more coordination and skill, but crags and older dlcs aren't that bad.

As for story mode, get some friends and or a guild.

As VV said, they've mentioned it on more than one occasion. And I agree, I wish they would. Even as someone who has campaigned for an optional increase to overland challenge, I think dungeons should also have an option to play in a solo/story mode, because you simply can't enjoy them the same way when everyone in your group is rushing through as quickly as they possibly can, and some dungeons simply cannot be soloed due to mechanics.

    One day, soon, hopefully.

This is not a solution to the OP's issue. Solo and group are completely different animals. For some people, that content will not be satisfying with other players around.

Because they are " Group Dungeons "

You should invite a friend or 2 so you can quest and clear them togheter.

it was mentioned in an interview January 2024 so yes zos knows.

Lambert says storymode for dungeons is “really hard because it’s essentially a third difficulty mode”; it’s on the list but probably isn’t happening any time soon.

not happening anytime soon could be as soon as this year or in several years in the future. i hope for it every new update regardless.

We got the Furnishing Vault about a year after an interview had a similar quote.
We got Subclassing 2 years after we were told Class Change Tokens weren't possible due to technical challenges.
Even though these are not the exact same things as the original requests they're still huge features and I have hope it won't be too long.

If you're trying to solo a dungeon then change your build to a solo build. You're likely running a full DPS Arcanist setup with health and resistances based around you being in a group with a healer and tank.

A solo mode for dungeons would be welcomed. There are a lot of voice dialogue that I was forced to skip through in order to get my quest to turn in during the beginning years of the game. Not to mention a lot of text that may be hard to spot at times. A lot of dungeon mechanics either lock your character into something they can't escape from or their is literally a group check lever or switch where 2 need to be operated at the same time. Some groups are patient from guilds but other times I ask guild, get a group, and they rush ahead anyway when I'm slowly looking for things and npcs to talk to (you will be surprised by how much dialogue dungeon npcs have in the dungeons) which are fully voice acted so I don't really want to skip their dialogue either.

As others have said though, the developers are looking into it but don't expect it any time soon. If I had a guess though it may be around the time they start adjusting overland difficulty (with a toggle hopefully) and might be included in that same year since they might look at adjusting difficulty as a whole in older content as well. We will see though. I will still continue to support the idea of a solo story mode but with less rewards (no set pieces as an example with less gold).

Then I direct you to the recent POLL, which showed almost 80% of players play ESO mostly to completely SOLO. Even the devs have stated that this game is meant to be 'Skyrim with friends'... and the ending of the latest trailer even says, "Play alone or with friends".

I'm a heavily group content endgame player, but I still love me some story. I've never understood why some stuff isn't instanced. I've been thinking about that a long time but doing Zerith's intro quest and this last prelude I really was annoyed that all these other people were in my little quest area. I'm supposed to be alone with him in this super secret long forgotten base and it's full of people. I wish they would make solo instance story stuff.

As for the person who said they never did trials because of the gatekeeping. I wouldn't believe everything you hear. I'm sure there are people like that out there but much of the endgame community is welcoming, friendly, ready to teach. We love getting new people in there. We grow only if we bring in new raiders. And anyone can do it. We have elderly folks doing normals, senior citizens doing vet dlc trials. I'd suggest looking for an awesome guild that runs trials. Maybe even a social guild with a few rostered normals a week. You may find the fun and the team work and the comradeship very rewarding. I mean if it's not for you that fine.

curious? Do world bosses scale to the amount of people fighting them? I'm not sure if they do, the big events etc? but couldn't they just SCALE the dungeon if your on your own so mobs take more dmg, deal less dmg etc? then it wouldn't need to be a whole new feature, could just scale mobs lower when not in a group inside a dungeon? Doesn't the infinite Archive scale for 1 or 2 players? I'm sure even getting companion out increases it?

Here is how I would do it to keep the MMo aspect.

Story mode can be completed Only ONCE, But gives full rewards, so you can do the quests, listen to the story and be rewarded, but then you must group for everything after to not diminish the MMO aspect of the dungeons

    OR

Make the STORY and Dialogue in Dungeons be spoken by the NPC's as you move through the dungeons without needing to actually talk to any NPC, so inside dungeons everything is just auto played in the background while you play and more streamlined.

SWTOR didn't have this problem, because in that game everyone joins the same NPC conversation and must pick a dialogue choice to continue then it rolls a rice and whoever wins is the char that says what they want to say or the choice etc, then once all done it ends and you move on. This absolutely triggered the... out of people who wanted to rush dungeons tho lol.

That's what I've been doing using group finder but unfortunately group finder in ESO is dead and it can take me anywhere from 30-4 hours to get a group using this method. Not sure why group finder in ESO is absolutely dead, when the game seems very populated... maybe they just added it far too late, I wanted it day 1, only noticed it when I returned this month. NOT EVEN in Cyrodill do people ever use it to form group, I was in Cy yesterday spamming ffor hours for a group, not a single group... how can you have large scale siege pvp and no one has a group or invites you to one? and not a single one posted in the GF.

I wouldn't mind the option to bring 3 companions into normal dungeons with me. The biggest issue will be that they are balanced for a group and often have mechanics that "require" two or more players.

Others have said their opinion on this but I'll share mine. Either the mode is re-playable with no set piece rewards and low gold drops or it can only completed once before having to do groups. The map won't change, that would be ridiculous, both from the player's perspective and a developers perspective. There is a significant portion of players that prefer solo content and want to experience dungeon quests as how the overland quests are presented but have to deal with the shenanigans that come with trying to group up with people you don't know, that have done the dungeon 1,000 times already, and may not have the patience to wait (even with my careful planning I still got guild mates running ahead before I could which made me rush a bit and not pay attention to the story). As another point to #4, this topic literally comes up about every 1 to 2 months so yes, I would say a significant portion of the player population wants it. 5 and 6 are hard to answer since I'm not a developer of the game and that is up to the development team. I would say it is worth it since a decent portion of the player base wants it and the length of time would probably be the same as adjusting difficulty for overland (which is why I said it may appear around the same time as when difficulty for overland is explored). The only issues I would see is trying to find the areas where those group check mechanics are but otherwise if they keep the difficulty around normal I don't think most players would mind.
