You can still move around but as soon as you approach the scroll you get 1 million damage.

If a player is inside of an enemy's gate, what is supposed to happen if the enemy closes the gate while the player is inside?
There are 2 states effectively.
1) The scroll has been picked up from the temple. - Players can move about freely and just cannot re-enter once leaving the gate by jumping off after going up the stairs.
2) The scroll is 'docked' within the temple - Players can move around freely however the scroll and the gate both have a protective barrier around them both leaving the gate by going up the stairs and getting too close to the scroll should kill the enemy players.

Okay, I guess that is what happened-- AD had taken DC scroll but were still behind DC gate when it was closed, and AD was able to climb up and jump off gate to leave. I thought I remembered it being like that years ago when I was with other DC players taking an AD or EP scroll and the gate was closed, but then I kept seeing people in forums saying that enemies inside the gate would die from scripted damage if the gate were closed. That's sort of what UESPwiki says, except the wording isn't very clear in its meaning.
