10 seconds is too short

Why are skills like spear shards, boneyard and lighting splash not given the regular 20 second damage over time duration? Those skills make rotations very inconvenient. Personally, I don't use them, except sometimes boneyard only if I can front bar it. 10 seconds is too short. Dragon knights eruption is a similar skill that deals dmg per second, it lasts 20 seconds. So why not give spear shards, boneyard and lightning splash the same treatment?

    That's about providing synergy more frequently, which is pretty valuable by itself.

    I don't care about synergies, if you are talking about shards, there are two morphs and one of them is dd oriented. Otherwise these are damage dealer skills, I'm looking at them from that angle. 10 second damage over time is too short.

    20s duration is for sticky DoTs. 15s is for ground DoTs.
    10s duration is for very powerful DPS DoTs. They have more damage per tick, but with a shorter duration they are more expensive. It is a way to balance them against each other.

    @spaceghost8 In ZOS's mind, if you want a Ferrari, you better be prepared to pay the premium.

    But, what they get wrong is, that we, the players, don't always have a choice. In my mind, with Shards and Boneyard, they force the premium, because the base ability is already 10s short and we cannot choose to have either a 15s boneyard at regular damage or a 10s at higher damage. I think Lightning Splash should be the blueprint for all those other ground DoTs.

    I assumed that was their thinking, but eruption is the something, same radius, it ticks per second as well AND It is a stronger dot than both shards and lightning splash. I don't know about boneyard, it might tick a little bit higher per second.
