Stam / melee builds, do you ever swap to ranged build for certain fights?

I ran Volenfell five times today. Why? Because im trying to fill out my stickerbook and dungeons are fun. Every group is a little different. there were a couple with a trad tank that grouped trash, but most were free for all with dps queue as either healer or tank.

I was usually topping dps except for last fight with the three automatons. Playing in melee range is really difficult on that fight. In retrospect, should i just equip oakensoul and one bar bow?

I have never modified my build mid run except to swap rings with different enchants. Now im thinking that changing things for specific fights is a good idea. Carry snow treaders for fights with lots of cc. Or poison/fire resist rings for certain fights with poison or fire.

The one fight I can think of is the twins in normal MoL. The group I usually run with likes to spread around and the rooms and range attack. If I'm on one of my melee builds I just switch it out for a bow/bow to make things easier for myself rather than being persnickety.

Sort of, the red boss in Vateshran has this attack where 4 lines of fire rotate around him that will instakill you on touch. The spaces between the lines are safe, but I find it simpler to just get out of their way altogether and hit him from range. He'll shoot fireballs at you if you do that but you can heal through those.

I have a hybrid ranged Templar currently, so I don't exactly swap, but I have it all built within. I use my ranged skills against Tho'at and the baddies blops that hurt, that accompany him in Infinite Archive for example.

Considering my preferred playstyle is mele only and ranged isn't an option. :)

Whyever not? It's smart to begin tougher fights with a couple of arrows to the knees then move in and decapitate enemies with melee ;)

Almost all of my stam characters use double daggers front bar and bow on backbar. Templar being the exception that uses greatsword front bar and bow back bar.

By far the most fun playstyle for me is double daggers rapid strikes front bar paired with poison injection back bar for opener on backbar. Templar I use great sword because puncturing sweeps functions like rapid strikes and critical charge as a closer without taunt is excellent.

I don't know about swapping between "builds"; are you talking about using the Armory to switch between builds?

But I typically put two different kinds of weapons, along with their associated skills, on my front and back ability bars. I don't consider bar-swapping to be build-swapping, but I do switch between 2-handed melee fighting and ranged bow attacks when the need arises, most often during PvP.

In PvE I generally switch between 2-handed melee fighting and sword-and-board tanking to help take the heat off of other players, although some players might consider me to be more of a fake tank than a real tank since my gear, stats, and skills (slotted abilities) are not sufficient for real tanking, especially in any vet content.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!
