Aren't they specifically chosen by a magic tome from Apocrypha, it is not something anyone can just train for so has this been explained at all? because it just seems like a plot-hole to me.

There are a lot of plot holes. It does not matter. Subclassing will be forced on us if we intend to keep playing.

And why is that? I only use about 4 class skills none of which are being altered, the rest are a combination of weapon skills, guild skills, vampire skills and psijic skills, infact Im actually getting buffed from it.

There are skills available to the Arcanist that could be replicated by other magical methods without need for the book.

Subclassing into Arcanist can be viewed as, e.g., a sorcerer spell crafting a large AOE beam spell, or a tendril spell, or a charm spell, whathaveyou.

The writing of the subclassing introduction quest doesn't make sense either, explaining every class by naming a companion as a "famous example" - even if the player character (or even the player, if it's someone who just started playing ESO) has never come across them and these characters have never left the backwater village they're dwelling in before we meet them.

I guess arcanist get the whole book - sublassing into it you got only one page, or maybe the first chapter as free advertising.

( Don't hurt your head with rp reasons : they will never get in the way of gameplay )

Same can be said for Dragonknight as well i think. Do not they have chosen blood or something like that?

Now, a Nightblade can be specifically chosen by a magic tome from Apocrypha, and to use some of the skills in the book they don’t suddenly have to forget everything they they know, just maybe a line of skills they didn’t use much anyway. 🙂

Actually, what is odd about being Arcanist and being chosen by a magical tome currently is that it’s like your character never did anything before that tome appeared and they had no skills whatsoever and suddenly “Poof!” they’re an Arcanist.

We still have the freedom to come up with any backstory and any reason we like why our characters will have whatever skills they have had or will have going forward.

Wouldn’t it have been interesting that if instead of releasing the Arcanist as a class, Subclassing had existed all along and so they had released the 3 Arcanist class skill lines separately instead?
