How would you balance Arcanist?

Arcanist currently dominate high-end PvE, and subclassing is gonna boost them even more. So, what should change to make it less dominating? Share ideas please, you might have better idea than what I listed

Arcanist beam has been overturned for awhile, sure it gives less apm, and reduces light attack weaving, resulting in less stress and load in a fight.

That shouldn't be punished, but it shouldn't punish other classes thst have to have a perfect 10 skill rotation while also having perfect light attacks to not even pass an arcanist dps.

One of the roughest copes I have with pve, is having to rely on 2 proc sets at least to carry my damage. I haven't pve'd in awhile because my playstyle is so far behind , and my only option is to change my playstle up or never get into a prog group.

Arcanist gets all the class fantasy. All the easy rotations, all the easy damage. So I get to be jealous and avoid pve .

Subclassing has me interested again, but I doubt I'll make a full return. I'd rather use my skills to do damage than use proc sets.

It is what it is I guess

Arc is (partly) supreme because there keeps being new raids made that benefit aoe damage over single target. An aoe class may do equal or less damage than a single target class in a single target fight, but single target classes will never dominate in aoe fights. If other classes had higher potential for single target over arc, and more content was made that was single target, then other classes would see a rise in usage. See all the older trials where score pushes do not use primarily arcanists.
Nerfing arc is a terrible idea because it's an easy class for people to play to get into raiding, and a lot of the newer trials require their insane aoe damage. Going forward what's needed is for other classes to have the chance to out perform them

I don't care, just stop putting caps to AoE abilities, it's just bad game design.

I'd say both : some classes need help, like nb, but the beam is blatantly OP. I don't even see how anyone can defend it. So just buff what needs to be buffed and nerf what needs to be nerfed I guess

Also, fatecarver makes for an extremely boring gameplay. I can parse for hours on my nb and have fun because it has interesting mechanics and involves plenty of skill. On arc you just apply dots and then beam. Thrilling. The problem is, I can't actually use my nb in content, since it has no cleave so I'm forced to play arc. The only fix I've found to this is to play tank/healer, but guilds usually already have those roles filled. So yeah, I'd like to see the beam nerfed to be able to enjoy playing as a DD

Offensive target caps have no business being in the game.

So that is NOT how Arcanist or Templar or anyone else should be balanced.

Indeed, that's *** design. Make the damage get reduced after X amount of targets or something.

Nah, seeing your offensive skills going through enemies doing 0 damage is peak satisfaction and fun.

Not nerf azure and give the other classes their aoe back. What's with zos trying to push everything to single target, do they really expect us to pewpew every single add down one at a time?

First thing I would like to see is AOE damage not being the be all end all. Almost every new dungeon and trial boss has a million adds that need to be managed, leaving any single target build in the dust. There are some spiteful mechanics where if you hit specific adds you get an enrage or damage reflection, but even in those fights, there are a ton of adds that need to be managed, and single target builds are simply falling behind. I would LOVE to see some more trials and dungeons really benefit from pure single target classes.

Secondly I'd love to see heavy attacks builds be great again. Unironically buff oakensoul back up to where it was on launch.

Thirdly, buff other classes. I don't care how just do it. Make whip hit like a truck, buff jabs to Oblivion and back, whatever. Make high CPM play on nightblade and sorc outstrip everything else in the game, I truly don't care. The only thing I DON'T want to see are blanket nerfs across arc that will indirectly nuke the middle to upper tier raiders again

This 1000%. All these people whining about "op" arc must be in the most perfect cores ever that never need a fill. It's hard enough filling raids these days and they just want to nake it harder by eliminating all the people who can actually play at that level now?

I miss pre nerf oakensoul lol those few months I literally never had bad dps in pug vets. So nice...

The problem is not the class but the fatecarver skill.
It need to be split in 3: single target damage, aoe damage and shield. At the moment the arcanist has a skill that does 3 tings instead of one like the others.

All skills that do more than one ting end up becoming problematic like the healing shield that the sorcerer got.
Those kind of skills are extremly hard to balance between various aspects of the game and inevitably end up being trash or overpowered.
