OK so my main rig died yesterday. Luckily I have a backup laptop. Updated ESO and all add-ons and now getting weird UI error. Yes, I enabled advanced UI errors and I still can't make this looping thing stop. Text of error:

uespLogUI_Update:3: function expected instead of nil
stack traceback:
uespLogUI_Update:3: in function '(main chunk)'
<Locals> self = ud, time = 118.75399780273 </Locals>

And here's what it looks like:

Thanks so much! It's been a rough week and I just want my ESO back! And no, I don't get the error if I turn off all addons. If anyone can spare me from having to go enable each one one at a time, I'd be super appreciative! Thanks!

Error says something like uespLogUI_Update o disable any addon that got uesp in it's name.
I guess it is this addon?
    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1257-uespLog.html

If there is no addon with that name search manually with windows text search in your live/AddOns folders, maybe it is in a subfolder or inside a filename itsself (search with window search inside files too -> can be enabled at windows explorer window -> Options [or for Win11 ... and then options] -> Search).

If that all does not work I'd disable half of the addons, starting at the top and ten reload the UI and narrow it down even more until the error is gone. That way you can find out which one is causing it.

Thank you so much for these great ideas and the observation RE which add on it may be. Will try after work, thanks so much!

Character is what one demonstrates when they do the right thing even when it isnt convenient and no one is looking and when you aren't being forced to do it.

OK tried that...now it's causing even more errors which I may try to tag up later tonight or tomorrow or over weekend. Sigh. But thanks for the hint...may be a process of elimination for each error that I get. I may also just do a reinstall of my most used addons and try again...le sigh.

I'd reinstall all the addons needed as you might have really outdated addons on your backup PC and it makes more trouble to make themt ry to get to work, than just reinstalling the libraries and addons fresh and properly.
Your SavedVariables could be kept (if you still got them) so you might not have to setup all from the scratch.

Thanks, yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It's easy enough to back up my addons and settings.

I'll let you know if I can figure out a smoother way.

Did you turn off advanced UI errors yet?

Advanced UI errors is a vanilla game setting, no addon. It will just add the variable names and call stacks to the error messages so the (addon)devs can have a better understanding what is wrong, because they see what the variables were telling as the error happend.

In the screenshots above you see it in greyish color, the text starts with <Locals>.This would be missing if advanced UI errors are disabled e.g.

You should always enable that if you report a lua error!

or you could turn it off and see if the loopiong stops

It is not related at all, as I tried to explain.
More precisely: The lua error messages throw, and THEN AFTERWARDS that extra info is added IF you got that setting enabled. So either way the lua errors need to throw to make that setting be respected at all. And it's not addon related but would even affect any other error message due to ZOs vanilla code.

But yeah, go ahead, disable that setting and see if it changes anything ;)

    OK, found a solution:

--Downloaded my old addons file and settings from my Carbonite backup
    --Popped it onto my laptop.

I still have a few non game breaking annoying errors, but I'm used to those and they stop after I clear it once.

But lots of good ideas here for future troubleshooting, thanks all!

Glad it works, for the most again.

    >I still have a few non game breaking annoying errors, but I'm used to those and they stop after I clear it once.

Those errors, even if only 1, could lead to other errors afterwards. Just hiding them might not be enough.
You should not ignore them but report them to the addon developers!

The error lines usually contain the addon/library name e.g. here
    user:/AddOns/LibDebugLogger/Initialization.lua:175: in function 'LogChatMessage'

Means it was raised in the LibDebugLogger library, file Initialization.lua, at line 175

So if you see these error messages, search at www.esoui.com top tight for the addon/library name, click on the comments tab and check if anyone reported that already there. If not, tend to report it.
At best always WITH "Advanced UI errors" enabled.
Just click into the error messsage and press CTRL+A to select all, then CTRL+C to copy it, and paste it with CTRL+V to the addon comments.
Add some info what you did as the error happened, and if you find the time and want to make sure the error does not happen because any other of your addons errored before: Try to disable all other addons and only enable the one addon that caused the error. Do the same as you did before as the error appeared and see if it's still there: If yes, report that.
If not you may want to find out which of your other addons you got enabled before, in combination with the one you test, raise the error again -> then report that.

You can use my addon AddonSelector to save the enabled addons as profiles/packs, and mass disable/enable addons via clicking an addon at the ingame addon manager and then SHIFT+left click on another addon more up/below. All addons in between will get enabled/disabled (based on what the first clicked addon was changed to).
